About this listen
In The Unseen Realm, Dr. Michael Heiser examines the ancient context of scripture, explaining how its supernatural worldview can help us grow in our understanding of God. He illuminates intriguing and amazing passages of the Bible that have been hiding in plain sight. You'll find yourself engaged in an enthusiastic pursuit of the truth, resulting in a new appreciation for God's word.
- Why wasn't Eve surprised when the serpent spoke to her?
- How did descendants of the Nephilim survive the flood?
- Why did Jacob fuse Yahweh and his angel together in his prayer?
- Who are the assembly of divine beings that God presides over?
- In what way do those beings participate in God's decisions?
- Why do Peter and Jude promote belief in imprisoned spirits?
- Why does Paul describe evil spirits in terms of geographical rulership?
- Who are the glorious ones that even angels dare not rebuke?
After listening to this book, you may never read your Bible the same way again.
There is a world referred to in the scripture that is quite unseen, but also quite present and active. Michael Heiser's The Unseen Realm seeks to unmask this world. Heiser shows how important it is to understand this world and appreciate how its contribution helps to make sense of scripture. The book is clear and well done, treating many ideas and themes that often go unseen themselves. With this book, such themes will no longer be neglected, so listen to it and discover a new realm for reflection about what scripture teaches.

Are demons and "principalities and powers" just terms for the same entities, or are they different members of the kingdom of darkness? Is the world a chaotic mess because of what happened in Eden, or is there more to the story of evil? In Demons, Michael Heiser debunks popular presuppositions about the very real powers of darkness.

Story
In his latest book, Angels, Dr. Heiser reveals what the Bible really says about God's supernatural servants. Heiser focuses on loyal, holy heavenly beings because the Bible has a lot more to say about them than most people suspect. Most people presume all there is to know about angels is what has been passed on in Christian tradition, but in reality, that tradition is quite incomplete and often inaccurate. Angels is not guided by traditions, stories, speculations, or myths about angels.

Story
Walton and Walton offer in The Lost World of the Torah a restorative vision of the ancient genre of instruction for wisdom that makes up a significant portion of the Old Testament. In the ancient Near East, order was achieved through the wisdom of those who governed society. The objective of torah was to teach the Israelites to be wise about the kind of order needed to receive the blessings of God's favor and presence within the context of the covenant. Here listeners will find fresh insight on this fundamental genre of the Old Testament canon.

In this electrifying social and intellectual history, Paula Fredriksen answers the question of how Jewish missionaries ended up inaugurating a movement that would grow into the gentile church by reconstructing the life of the earliest Jerusalem community. As her account arcs from this group’s hopeful celebration of Passover with Jesus, through their bitter controversies that fragmented the movement’s midcentury missions, to the city’s fiery end in the Roman destruction of Jerusalem, she brings this vibrant apostolic community to life.

In The Bible’s Cutting Room Floor, acclaimed author and translator Dr. Joel M. Hoffman gives us the stories and other texts that didn’t make it into the Bible even though they offer penetrating insight into the Bible and its teachings. The Book of Genesis tells us about Adam and Eve’s time in the Garden of Eden, but not their saga after they get kicked out or the lessons they have for us about good and evil.

In The Day the Revolution Began, N. T. Wright once again challenges commonly held Christian beliefs, as he did in Surprised by Hope. Demonstrating the rigorous intellect and breathtaking knowledge that have long defined his work, Wright argues that Jesus' death on the cross was not only to absolve us of our sins, it was actually the beginning of a revolution commissioning the Christian faithful to a new vocation - a royal priesthood responsible for restoring and reconciling all of God's creation.

New Testament scholar N. T. Wright reveals how we have been misreading the Gospels for centuries, powerfully restoring the lost central story of the scripture: that the coronation of God through the acts of Jesus was the climax of human history. Wright fills the gaps that centuries of misdirection have opened up in our collective spiritual story, tracing a narrative from Eden to Jesus to today.

In Reasons to Believe, Scott Hahn, a convert to Catholicism, explains the "how and why" of the Catholic faith - drawing from Scripture, his own struggles, and those of other converts, as well as from everyday life and even natural science. Hahn shows that reason and revelation, as well as nature and the supernatural, are not opposed to one another; rather, they offer complementary evidence that God exists. He is someone, and He has a personality, a personal style, that is discernable and knowable.

What sort of "person" is God? Is it possible to approach him not as an object of religious reverence, but as the protagonist of the world's greatest book--as a character who possesses all the depths, contradictions, and abiguities of a Hamlet? In this "brilliant, audacious book" ( Chicago Tribune), a former Jesuit marshalls a vast array of learning and knowledge of the Hebrew Bible to illuminate God--and man--with a sense of discovery and wonder.

Is the world a chaotic mess because of what happened in Eden, or is there more to the story of evil? In Demons, Michael Heiser debunks popular presuppositions about the very real powers of darkness.

Most people presume all there is to know about angels is what has been passed on in Christian tradition, but in reality, that tradition is quite incomplete and often inaccurate. Angels is not guided by traditions, stories, speculations, or myths about angels.

Despite how preposterous such questions might sound today, the world is being groomed to accept these very ideas as a plausible explanation for the supernatural events of Scripture. Each miracle Jesus performed in the New Testament, some folks say, was not as much an act of divine power and will as much as it was a demonstration of alien mastery over sciences we can't yet fathom. The ET gospel currently merging into mainstream theology seems to have an answer for every dilemma—most of which must ignore portions of Scripture to be true.

The King James Version (KJV) of the Bible beautifully rendered the Scriptures into the language of turn-of-the-17th-century England. Even today, the King James version is the most widely read Bible in the United States. The rich cadence of its Elizabethan English is recognized even by non-Christians. But English has changed a great deal over the last 400 years and in subtle ways that very few modern readers or listeners will recognize.

Read and Reread!
I love this book-- it is a major paradigm shift in my thinking, and some of the author's presentations are too much to take in in the first read. But it is well worth the effort to go back and reread concepts (and even entire chapters) to solidify the images he so colorfully exhibits. It is hard for me to believe that Mr. Heiser does not have a volume of works published-- he is gifted with words and has a knack for understated humor.

Probably the most scriptural I've ever heard/read!
This book has completely opened up a narrative that's been in the Bible the whole time but I just never saw in its fullness not ever heard before.
It's demystified so many unclear passages with sound biblical exegesis.
I'll be listening to it/reading it over andcover for years to come.

Great amount of research and insight
What did you love best about The Unseen Realm?
The amount of research and passion the author has put into this book.
What did you like best about this story?
The introduction of the concept of co-creation with God.
What aspect of Gordon Greenhill’s performance would you have changed?
The continual mention of "note" and "end note" in the delivery was beyond annoying. It's the only reason this book was not rated higher. I would imagine for copyright reasons this had to be done.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Not possible, it's too long.

Extremely Well Researched
To a layperson: this book reads very academic. I found a lot of the in-depth language parts unnecessary. Since I don’t speak nor read either Greek or Hebrew; I’m trusting the author regardless if he says “it could also mean this in Ancient Greek” or “it could also mean this in Ancient Greek because of this other word and this curved line on the last letter. This curved line was commonly used to denote this other sound which in turn....” - either way I’m taking the authors word on a subject I am unfamiliar with. His bonafides in this subject are well documented so I felt details that granular to a layperson could have been reserved for a journal article or textbook. The language parts are all important but only insofar as they make the basic case and not why they make that case. I believe Dr. Heiser has a very similar book that excludes a lot of this and might have been a better jumping in point for me. Overall I thought the book was excellent and it explains so many “odd” sounding passages in a way that actually fits. The first night after listening my head was spinning. I laid in bed thinking “Lord, what have I gotten myself into.” I felt detached from the traditional Evangelical notions I’ve held for decades. Very gently I felt the Lord ask “What about your beliefs actually changed?” It was a moment of clarity and relief. Nothing had changed except that things actually made a lot more sense. All of the same core beliefs I had before were intact, the puzzle just seemed to have a lot more of pieces filled in around those beliefs was all.

Thoughts on Book
There were many good thoughts and insights given. A solid exegetical foundation was shown but what was built off of that foundation was somewhat flimsy. Much of the conclusions drawn had to be backed with sources outside of scripture. Good food for thought, it’s not inspired though so don’t take it as such.

Magnificent Masterpiece,
A truly great book for anyone who loves The Almighty and wishes to understand more of His grand creation. When I first joined Audible this, along with Dr. Heisner's companion book Supernatural, were among the first books I chose.. I jumped into The Unseen Realm first but soon was lost so I opened his companion book and got smitten with it's wealth of information. Now a full year has passed since completing Supernatural, and my maturity and understanding of The Father's unseen realm has grown in me.. I again opened the Doctor's fully noted and more expanded book, The Unseen Realm and it was a great read. It fully opened all my senses to the glory that awaits. Now, I believe I will return to the easier read and chew on Supernatural one more time. I expect it will be a bucket of thrills this row around. Thank you Dr. H. for giving us a magnificent experience. ?

To date, this has been the finest book on theology that I have encountered. Bravo!
