About this listen

This is an academic work describing how the New Testament writers re-purpose Genesis 6:1-5 in their presentation of Jesus as messiah. Though every topic addressed in Reversing Hermon can be found in scholarly academic literature, Reversing Hermon is the first book to gather this information and make it accessible to Bible students everywhere. The book also includes lengthy appendices on the ancient debate on the inspiration of the book of 1 Enoch, New Testament allusions to the book, and academic resources for studying 1 Enoch and the Book of Giants from the Dead Sea Scrolls.

Put Away Your Preconceptions

As a pastor, I ran as fast as I could from Genesis 6:1-4. It had to mean anything but what it said. If you are an expository preacher and take pride that you don't duck from any passage that pops up on the calendar of preaching (even womens' head coverings from I Corinthians), you better have a real good explanation for these four Genesis verses. Uhhh, by the way, that the "sons of God" were Seth's descendants are destroyed by Heiser's academic explanation.

Dig in to the rich biblical and important scholarly background that makes this book one for the hungry hearts of those who long for more meaning to one of the most, till now, mysterious passages in all of the Bible.

And one more thing: it will make all that's happening in the world today make more and more sense.

Here's to mind-spinning Bible study!

GET THIS BOOK!

I LOVE every book I've read by Dr. Heiser (this one, Unseen Realm, Angels and Demons. He is truly devoted to getting believers back to a supernatural reading of the Bible and goes into extraordinary detail, historical and theological, to bring that goal to fruition!

Excellent as always from Heiser

Yet another thorough breakdown of the true supernatural world of the Bible. Heiser is excellent. The reader of this one sometimes sounds like he's reading sarcastically, but he sounded the same in "The Façade" so I think that's just his voice. excellent regardless

The depth analysis of the manuscript of the extra biblical books is fabulous. The take away of this study is soooo much and sooo rich !!!

Very detailed and informative

I had never heard of the book of Enoch until a friend of mine recommended Michael Heiser's book "The Unseen Realm". After listening to that book, I saw this one. I really liked the first one. This book however was different and better in some ways. It will giver you a new perspective on what the Jews of the time of Jesus Christ would have thought and believed about the scriptures they were reading. It was very well done.

Great Book, not great narration

This was a fantastic read that began to address questions I have had for years but had no idea where to begin searching for answers. Will definitely do more research on this topic. I will likely(and suggest to others) order a physical copy to keep track of biblical references and sources. Narration was not great, much prefer the narrator from his other book "Demons". (guess you cant win em all, huh?)

Necessary observations

There are a lot of people who make theological claims about the Bible that have never truly studied it. I think every one of Heiser’s works should be read/listened to by anyone who takes the Bible seriously. That should be every person on the planet but sadly, it is a minority, especially in today’s postmodern “Scientism” culture. Great book!!

I am sorry but this needs to be reread..

I don't want ro hurt anyone but this narrator didn't put enough study of the vocabulary, puncuation points, and breathing technique to get through some sentences or the book. Dr. Heiser is sharing something so very important so please whoever narrated, I know given preparation you would do much better. Again, I don't mean to hurt your feelings.

Confusing Hermon

I had to listen to this book twice to figure out how something could be so intelligent, then get everything wrong. The problem with this book is that the author knows so much, without knowing God. There is only one God that made us. The rebellious Angels and the Watchers can try to help or hinder us at will. It is the faith in Jesus as the Messiah, that is the rock upon which the Churches are built. It is written to please many religious concepts. A lot of work went into this. It is worth a listen for the plethora of gathered information. It would be nice if more academic writers had a better relationship with God. The presentation was very good.

Eye opener

wow. the deeper I get the more I want to learn. I pray that one day the American church will find its way to learning from things like this and not what they have been groomed to believe.
