Five years ago, Clayton Rorick loved me. Or so I thought. Turned out he only wanted to get his hands on my daddy’s company. Heartbroken, I ran away with nothing but the clothes on my back. Like a twisted Cinderella. When my father dies, leaving my sisters in a desperate situation, it’s up to me to help them.
I'll have to beg the man who broke my heart to save us.
But Clayton hasn't forgotten me, and what he wants in exchange for his help is...my body, my heart, and my soul.

Veronica (Ronnie) isn’t the ‘beautiful’ daughter out of the three King sisters but she is the oldest (20 I think) and she feels it’s her job (since their mother died when they were young) to look after her sisters because their Tycoon father is disinterested in mere girls to do anything other than let them continue to live at the Ranch. Or so Ronnie thought.. because, on the night of her and Clayton’s engagement party, she learns the awful truth of the ‘arranged marriage’ deal and its twisted terms.. so a very bitter and heartbroken Ronnie flees. And the plot skips over the five years where she successfully carves out a life for herself, starts a small business and shares a home with her sister. But the memories of the handsome man she once loved haunts her dreams.. together with the nightmares of that awful soul-destroying night when she uncovered the truth. Ronnie swore she’d never go back.. but then Clayton is suddenly before her.. and he brings news that will emotionally challenge her and change everything.. because she’ll do just about anything to keep her sisters safe.
After the initial drama, heartbreak and fleeing Prologue, there was a good build-up and balance to the story and the reawakening of their relationship.. with a tentative ceasefire, a revealing of secrets, a lowering of defences and promises to speak only truths.. then the true magic of second-chances happen. And it’s a good enemies-to-lovers second-chance love story with lots of family dynamics and drama, betrayal, sex, looking behind the mask, forgiveness, redemption and, of course, love.
Worth a credit? Yes.. BUT unfortunately my pet peeve of the constant “he said”.. “she says”.. ”he replied”.. “she asked” etc.. etc.. etc., was so bloody annoying that it stole some of the pleasure. The over-use of those should also be unnecessary if you’ve got fairly decent narrators.. and Iggy and Heather’s narration was ok during the dual POV storyline (which was mainly told from Ronnie’s POV). And I really wish it had an Epilogue.
