Number-one New York Times best-selling author Kim Harrison returns to her beloved Hollows series with The Turn, the official prequel to the series that will introduce fans and listeners to a whole new side of Rachel Morgan's world as they've never seen it before!
Can science save us when all else fails?
Trisk and her hated rival, Kal, have the same goal: save their species from extinction.
But death comes in the guise of hope when a genetically modified tomato created to feed the world combines with the government's new tactical virus, giving it an unexpected host and a mode of transport. Plague rises, giving the paranormal species the choice to stay hidden and allow humanity to die or to show themselves in a bid to save them.
Under accusations of scientific misconduct, Trisk and Kal flee across a plague-torn United States to convince leaders of the major paranormal species to save their supposedly weaker kin, but not everyone thinks humanity should be saved, and Trisk fights the prejudices of two societies to prove not only that humanity does have something to offer but that long-accepted beliefs against women, dark magic, and humanity itself can turn to understanding; that when people are at their worst, the best show their true strength, and that love can hold the world together as a new balance is found.

The story is pure Hollows, not vastly departing from the style of the previous novels. If you liked any of the Hollows series youll like this.

Would you listen to The Turn again? Why?
I tend to re-read/listen to my books when they are in a series, but Id listen to this again just to pick up on ALL of the characters from the main Hollows series she touches on that I think I may have missedWhat other book might you compare The Turn to and why?
Of course all of The Hollows series, since this is the prequel, but if you like the Jane Yellowrock series by Faith Hunter, or Anita Blake series by Laurell K Hamilton (minus the explicit sex scenes), The Hollows are for you.Which character – as performed by Marguerite Gavin – was your favorite?
Marguerite Gavin is wonderful at creating memorable distinct voices but I loved Orchid the pixie and Gilley the demon (Algaliarept - who is called Al in The Hollows) because they sound like Id imagine a Pixie or Demon to sound. Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I basically DID. I started yesterday at work, and listened until I fell asleep and then all day at work today.Any additional comments?
This is the best prequel Ive ever heard. Seriously. Kim Harrison not only wove an intricate and compelling story about the biological disaster that caused the non-humans (Interlanders) to have to reveal themselves to the humans, and create the world we are reading about in The Hollows; but also gave realistic backstory to KEY characters from The Hollows series, while making their appearances plausible to the current book. Not only that but she managed to regress these characters in such a way that they really DO seem like younger versions of themselves - not the same character, just in a different time. Given the events in this book take place around 40 years prior to The Hollows series I think she did an AMAZING job with this. I would love to see a sequel to this one!!!WHAT AN AWESOME PREQUEL!!!!
