About this listen

For all those who wonder, "Just who is Donald Trump?",
The Truth About Trump supplies the answer.

Drawing upon exclusive interviews and exhaustive research, Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter Michael D'Antonio presents Trump's full story, from his beginnings as a businessman to his juggernaut presidential campaign. Along the way, D'Antonio charts the successes and failures, scandals and triumphs, and relentless pursuit of money and fame that have made Trump who he is today. D'Antonio also details the origins of the Trump family fortune, Trump's history of using politics to get ahead, and how he has mastered the media to turn publicity into power.

First published in 2015, and now updated to cover Trump's rise to political prominence, The Truth About Trump is an unsparing, eye-opening account of the life and career of the most talked-about man in America.

This audiobook was previously published as Never Enough: Donald Trump and the Pursuit of Success.

an apologist perspective

ugh! I wish I would've listened to the last chapter first, as it would have spared me alot of wonder. the author describes the subject's behavior then seems to try to justify it with surface psycho babble, that seems apologetic. having read countless books and articles on the subject, it was just too much. actually, in light of the subjects most recent behavior, it was enough to gag a maggot. ack.

Interesting but loses clarity

Liked some of the more well-known stories by adding depth but more obscure stories were difficult to understand exactly what happened and the significance.

He is more despicable than you thought

I was first aware of Trump sometime in the early 80s. I was not a fan. My opinion is unchanged, but I must admit that I was not familiar with most of his pathetic and petty acts and statements recounted in this book. Having read it, my revulsion is better explained. I look forward to a day when I can watch a newscast and not hear him mentioned...ever again. For him, as the author makes clear, that day will be hell.

I am, by the way, a Republican. I did not cast a presidential ballot in 2016, and I am ashamed of “Republicans” in the House and Senate who tolerate and even defend this man. They should be taken in custody and subjected to a reading of this narrative.

In the end, the reader will realize what a small and ignorant person this Trump really is...no, come to think of it, many will not. I wish that I had not purchased this book. I wish that I had not read this book. I recommend it only to sufferers of chronic constipation; at least you will be able to puke.

Most comprehensive history of Trump with important insights

This well written book was clearly well researched and each chapter of trump’s life was told with a clear context of the time period. The author allows you to draw your own conclusions for the most part but at the end gives us his take on some aspects of trump’s story and personality. Since he spent much time interviewing him I appreciated his insight.

Great insight into the man

Very well done. Even-handed, thorough, clearly written. Kept my interest all the way through. I feel like I understand the phenomenon that is Donald Trump much better than before. I was concerned that this would be a hatchet job, but it wasn't.

I still don't much care for the man or his views on many issues, but I understand him better.

The best and most well-researched study of a man about become President

I am only a neighbor who lived for several years in the USA and learned as much as I could about the sociopolitical dynamics.

I hope your country can survive this presidency and mine, Canada, can minimize the damage.

An Even-Handed Look

I learned several things about Donald Trump, many of which are to be admired. I also gained some insight into how he built his fortune. Mr. Trump possesses both positive attributes and significant flaws - which most of us do. In his case, however, it all gets magnified by his forceful personality. All in all, a "good listen"

The Title Speaks for itself

This Listen makes clear that the ascendency of Donald Trump and the MAGA Doctrine is as unprecedented as it is ominous. An Icy Reality that must compel the previously non chalant (I include myself) to extricate ourselves from our political apathy, and work tirelessly to assist those best suited to sound the alarm on our impending doom, should this insane sociopath ever again be allowed to marry his evil with real power. No matter how small each individual impact may be, a determined an collective effort will prove successful in ridding the nation of the Trump plague and stay the breakdown of our freedoms and democracy. The stakes have never been higher, America is ours to lose.

The sad truth: At an indefinable point, We the people lost ourselves, somewhere out there between the intersection of fear and hate, becoming that which we have always despised, that which we have fought so valiantly against, that which is the very antithesis of who we truly are.

Like so many others, I am shit scared. There's no elegance in that, nothing poetic or moving that can be written to describe it, Nothing. This terror will without warning suddenly creep into my conscious, constricting around my throat like a silken scarf that is bound too tightly, and for that moment I cannot breathe with ease. A seemlessly neverending nightmare, yet even upon waking, my eyes continue to burn as my inverted tears drop into a sunken cavity pulsing with the ache of my nation's woes. In that single tear, I feel akin to all my fellow Americans who have endured these last four years: this onslaught cold and cruel occurrences; this sick joke imposed on us. Yet still, the indomitable human spirit endured the horror of Trump's Presidency with beautiful and terrifying patience and fortitude.

The other more hopeful truth: We are not defined by these last years, nor are we eternally linked to Trumpism. Our salvation and redemption lies in an outright rebuke of everything Trump.
Yes we are flawed, yes we have erred and yes we have fallen. We are, afterall, only human. Paradoxically, it is our flawed and fragile humanity that will also prove our salvation. Man's true beauty lies entirely in culmination of his mistakes as they dance exquisitely with his binaries, ringed with flame and pulsing like that of a sensual salsa routine.

Humanity’s true soul is seen in the small, significant and everyday kindnesses that elevate it instantaneously, like the immortal bird of flame as it rises from its bed of ashes. The sincerity of the Phoenix lies not in its bold and majestic extravagance, but in the ashes that framed and defined all it lived to be.
