Fi has always known there's something not quite right about herself.
Not quite human.
For as long as she can remember, Fi has been sensitive to other people's emotions. So sensitive, she works a night job as a cleaner to avoid being overwhelmed by all of their feelings.
After a night on the town goes wrong, Fi comes to the attention of the Academy of Avalon. The obscenely beautiful jerk of a man who comes to collect her confirms her suspicions - Fi isn't human at all.
But all is not as it seems in Avalon. Magic is dying, those who have it are hunted, and at least one person really doesn't want Fi there.

narration was just ok
I had a hard time with the female narrator. She had a slight lisp and it kept taking me out if the story. Like at one point I was wondering if she had ever received speech therapy, at another point I wondered if her particular accent was causing the lisp and so on ...

great premise for this story line.
the female narrator does take a minute to get used to but her and the male narrator do a good job of bringing the book to life. the story kinda hurries through the beginning and glosses over a couple of things but overall I like it and will listen to the next book.

Absorbing
I don't typically like YA fiction, but this was very well done. Detailed world building, decent character development, entertaining plot. I listened in one go. The narration was fabulous. I'm starting book 2 immediately.

Interesting concept
I liked this story, and I liked the characters, though the hostility with th one male character was just a smidge unconvincing. His behavior didn't make logical sense based on the reasoning. I DID like that he wasn't a jerk all the time. The world building is good, as are the narrations, though some characters sounded too similar. All in all, the story is a solid 4 and worth pursuing.
