About this listen

To know the Sweet Potato Queens is to love them, and if you haven't heard about them yet, you will. Since the early 1980s, this group of belles gone bad has been the toast of Jackson, Mississippi, with their glorious annual appearance in the St. Patrick's Day parade. In The Sweet Potato Queens' Book of Love, their royal ringleader, Jill Conner Browne, introduces the Queens to the world with this sly, hilarious manifesto about love, life, men, and the importance of being prepared. Topics include:

  • The True Magic Words Guaranteed to Get Any Man to Do Your Bidding
  • The Five Men You Must Have in Your Life at All Times
  • Men Who May Need Killing, Quite Frankly
  • What to Eat When Tragedy Strikes, or Just for Entertainment

And, of course:

  • The Best Advice Ever Given in the Entire History of the World

From tales of the infamous Sweet Potato Queens' Promise to the joys of Chocolate Stuff and Fat Mama's Knock You Naked Margaritas, this irreverent, shamelessly funny book is the gen-u-wine article.

Laughed a lot

Great storytelling. Some untoward stuff, mostly just a lot of wonderful personal stories that will make you feel loved & accepted as a human being. And it’ll really make you wanna get back to the Magnolia State as fast as possible.

Loved it!

I have listened to several of the Sweet Potato Queens books and I absolutely LOVE them! They make me laugh while driving, and I really don't care how long it takes me to get to work in downtown Dallas! Jill Conner Browne as the author is perfect ... she has the southern drawl that drags you in and keeps you laughing. The accent alone keeps me laughing. It is really unfortunate that you do not have all the fabulous recipes in print ..... (sigh). You will definitely have to go back to the books and listen to and write down the great recipes. Sweet Potato Queens know how to eat!

The only self help book you ever need

Yeah, she isn't the best reader in this audiobook, but in her other books her reading is much better, like she isn't sorry about any of it. I actually read this one after the financial planner one, so I was already hooked. Definately quotable! If your a fan of self help books, then try and take a break with this one, because if you were not confident before you started reading this book, then you will be.

Silliness, not seriousness

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Eh. Women are far more than shallow sex objects. There are certainly some giggles in this title but it is not at all a serious tome of empowerment.

If you haven't read about this book, read other reviews, or had a friend tell you about it then I must start out with THIS BOOK IS NOT RATED G!

Now that the rating is out of the way, if this book is read with the thought that it is only entertainment and not a how-to guide, then laugh away.

For a real life how-to for beauty, follow Audrey Hepburn in her quote, "For beautiful eyes, look for the good in others; for beautiful lips, speak only words of kindness; and for poise, walk with the knowledge that you are never alone."

On a positive note, there is nothing sillier than a gaggle of girls. This book is about said gaggle.

The funniest and best book for sisterhood!

This book is hilarious and changed my life. It gave me a new appreciation for sisterhood and made me realize that no matter what is happening in your life, there is always time for some fun. Be bold! Be outrageous! But do it where no one knows you. HA! HA! or not. The choice is yours. Life is too short, not to say what you feel or try and push your own limits in the name of good fun. A MUST read!! There are a bunch of fun recipes, too. yum! yum! I'm an SPQ fan for life!!!!

Would love to be a queen!

Love love love all Jill Conner Brownes books. Please write more. I have them all and am now getting them from Audible. Love that Jill reads them herself! Whenever I need to smile I know I can get one from her.

witting and funny

This is a good funny read. Uniformly witty. This is the better of the two Sweet Potatos. The other one (the recipe book and financial guide) is funny too but not as much as this one. If any Sweet Potato queen disagrees, then she is welcome to come tell me so, and I'm sure she will.
