About this listen

Dr. Henry Jekyll, fascinated by the dichotomy of good and evil, no longer wants to inhibit his dark side. He concocts a potion to create the alter ego of Mr. Edward Hyde. With the burden of evil placed on Hyde, Jekyll can now take pleasure in his immoral, nefarious fantasies - free of conscience and guilt. It's when Hyde turns to murder that Jekyll realizes how monstrous his impulses are and how hard they are to suppress.

Exploring the nature of shame, repression, desire, and control, Stevenson's story has so endured that "a Jekyll and Hyde personality" has become part of our lexicon in understanding our own - sometimes involuntary - duality.

Revised edition: Previously published as The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, this edition of The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (AmazonClassics Edition) includes editorial revisions.

Inside the Mind of a Madman

I've always heard of this book, but never took the time to read it. Its a short story that delves into the mind of a man gone mad with the duality of humanity itself. One moment he's Dr. Jekyll and he other he's Mr. Hyde. Though short, it shows what might have been going on inside Stevenson's mind in his latter years. Though his health was in decline, and potentially dying of Tuberculosis, he continued to produce pieces like this. Worth a read in my opinion

Compelling Even Though We All Know the Plot Twist

An interesting philosophical meditation on morality on top of a compelling story. Some of the bite is taken out because we all know the plot twist, but the story moves along quickly enough that you aren't bothered too much by that. The writing is accessible yet intelligent, and the Davies does a great job reading/acting it.

Worthwhile Classic

Narrator did a great job. Prior to listening to this audiobook I had only seen the various movies. The book was genuinely different and worth the time.

Excellent portrayal of an excellent book

I'd forgotten what a great story this is. It's got so much more depth than I remember from high school.

narrator was good, storyline was great

The narrator had a smooth, clean voice and was enjoyable to listen to at night before I went to bed. It pleases me that some of my favourite classics are read by such good people.
