Acerca de esta escucha

Children should not just read about history, they should live it. In The Story of Civilization author Phillip Campbell uses his historical expertise and storytelling ability together in tandem, to present history's greatest stories in a fresh and thrilling way.

Talented voice actor and audiobook producer Kevin Gallagher continues the journey through history in this riveting reading of The Story of Civilization: The Medieval World. This follows his popular readings of Volume 1: The Ancient World and The Story of the Bible series. Your children will be transported back in time through the sound effects, music, and voice acting that complements the reading of the text.

The journey continues in this second volume just after the conversion of Emperor Constantine. Children will watch the seeds of Christendom being planted in the soil of Europe, thanks to colossal figures like Sts. Benedict, Patrick, and Ambrose. The wonder of the medieval world comes alive with brilliant tales of knights, crusaders, castles, and inventions.

The strength of the content lies not only in the storybook delivery of it, but also in the way it presents history through the faithful prism of the Church. Have you always wanted your children to learn about world history from a Catholic perspective? Here, you'll have the trusted resource you've always wanted.

Did you know that:

  • Monks were the first to make use of clocks?
  • St. Patrick was once kidnapped by pirates?
  • St. Bernard of Clairvaux once excommunicated a swarm of flies?
  • The pope once lived in France instead of Rome?
  • A plague spread out across Europe and killed millions of people?

Whether looking for entertainment on a long road trip, enhancing the experience with the text, or catering to the needs of a child with a reading disability, this audio dramatization will open up a new world of adventure for kids of all ages.

story of civilization brings to life the events of developing civilizations. history is important to study because it reflects the advance of our modern age and gives us a perspective of appreciation for the things and freedoms we have. let us never take our culture and freedom for granted here in the u.s.a

Great narrator, great information! my only disappointment is that the chapters dont match the book and there are not indicators of where you are in the story compared to the book. i bought it for my daughter to listen to as she follows along with some chapters...but now i have to go through and figure out the times myself. disappointed :(

Great information...can't follow along with book

My 7 and 8 year old would listen to this history for as long as I would let them. They loved the stories and the way history was told. They also enjoyed hearing how the Catholic Church was involved in history.

Great story telling of history

I did enjoy the book but I enjoyed volume 1 of the Old Testament &value 2 of the New Testament better than a volume 1 of the ancient world and volume 2 of the mid evil world. I'm going to listen to the modern world and the history of the United States and the history of the church and I will add my reviews for those books .
but as for this book it is OK. I did enjoy it. I do recommend it for children and adults as well. lots of valuable information i just feel like they could happen more information.

i did enjoy this book

I gave 3 stars because it may be that the book is fine for what it IS and I just didn't read enough reviews before buying (had to stop after St. Benedict and return it). I love world history written for casual reads/listens, or for young readers - it just chills me out. Even though I'm agnostic, I recognize the religion has played a huge part in history and that faith and scholarship aren't always in conflict, so blurb phrases like "told through the prism of faith" didn't put me off. But this isn't merely history told in a way that's compatible with faith.... it's a straight up Sunday School reader. When people started walking on water, I tapped out.

I'm not here to criticize or debate anyone's beliefs. If you think a history book should state that Benedict made his soull so beautiful for God that God enabled him to work many miracles, you might enjoy this. It wasn't what I signed up for.

Religion, Not History
