Publisher's summary

An evocative and charming novel full of secrets and mystery, from the Sunday Times bestselling author of The Lost Bookshop

In a quiet village in Ireland, a mysterious local myth is about to change everything…

One hundred years ago, Anna, a young farm girl, volunteers to help an intriguing American visitor translate fairy stories from Irish to English. But all is not as it seems and Anna soon finds herself at the heart of a mystery that threatens her very way of life.

In New York in the present day, Sarah Harper boards a plane bound for the West Coast of Ireland. But once there, she finds she has unearthed dark secrets – secrets that tread the line between the everyday and the otherworldly, the seen and the unseen.

With a taste for the magical in everyday life, Evie Woods's latest novel is full of ordinary characters with extraordinary tales to tell.

Editorial Review

Get a divorce, jump on a plane, and find out if faeries are real
I’m so glad I took the recommendation of a trusted colleague (thanks, Katie O.!) and gave The Story Collector by Evie Woods a chance. Woods is a new-to-me author and Heather O’Sullivan is a new-to-me narrator—and their collaboration has become the summer listen I didn’t know I needed. Blending the past and present, the US and Ireland, the ordinary and the not-so-ordinary—it’s a tale about everyday people that’s full of magic, faeries, love, hope, and the power of stories. You will want to jump on the next Aer Lingus plane you see—you’ll know it by the shamrock on its tail—in hopes of discovering your own magical reawakening. — Tricia F., Audible Editor

Finding your place when you’re so lost

A great story about hope and finding yourself. The narrator was amazing and brought the characters to life. It’s another great book for this author

I felt like I was back in Ireland. Engrossed in the characters.

This was a beautiful book that reminds you of the romance of Ireland, family and love.

LOVED IT!!!!

I loved everything about this book. I loved her first book, and could not wait to read her next book when it came out and it did NOT disappoint! I have a feeling this is one I’ll come back to in the future to listen to again. Wonderful dual storyline and character development. It makes me want to travel even more than I already do.

Great story

I liked how the past and the present were we’ve together in the unfolding story. Also enjoyed the bit of fairy magic.

Pretty good

I loved everything about the story except for the romance part of it, which seemed like an afterthought. Even though I love romance in my reading, I don't think it should be forced. This story was otherwise extremely engaging and the performance was very well done.

Cozy story telling vibes!

Love this book! Feels like rom-com meets folklore in a charming heartfelt way with grief running through out.

Real Magic

The descriptions of the west of Ireland are spot on in every detail and nuance. The dual romance is intriguing and adds yet another level of magic and also believability. It is haunting, mystical, poignant, and lovely all at once. I am delighted to find this author.

Had me guessing. I didn’t want it to end.

I really thought Oren’s grandfather was going to be Anna’s youngest brother but the time was too far apart. The story was a pleasure to listen too albeit frustrating at times. Kept me listening. I would love to hear more books by this author Audible has two.
