About this listen

The Inquisitors have been stopped, but the one who leads them remains at large.

Tolan discovers a dangerous plot against the Academy - and all of Terndahl - the Inquisitors have planned for far longer than any have suspected. The power involved is unlike anything ever encountered by those within the Academy. Tolan isn’t sure he’s capable of understanding what has happened, but with his connection to the elementals, he might be the only one able.

The key to what’s happening is tied to something in Tolan’s past. For him to stop the one who leads the Inquisitors, and to understand what they’re after, requires him to know more about where he came from and why his parents left him in Ephra.

Stopping the Inquisitors is only the beginning, not only for Tolan to save Terndahl, but to finally know himself.

it wasn't the worst book

at times it kept me engaged and wanting more but most of the time I really didn't care what was going on it did have a cool mystery but once the mystery was gone the book got pretty unremarkable I didn't finish the story I got bored of it there's one more book left and I don't plan on listening to it it wasn't bad I just got bored

lots of filler in this book compared to the previous reads. suggest you plow through. Hopefully next book will be better. maybe my expectations were higher than they should have been

Great series

Kept me wanting to find out what happens next. Only one tiny complaint is that he asking questions sounds like a kid saying “why, why, how, but why…..” too often.

Exciting story, I must get to the next book

Purchased the last book and I hope this finishes the series as I'd like to get on to other items this author has written.
Great series!

interesting

love it.... It's detailed enough so that I can play it out on my head. Great performance by narrator in which makes the story worth listening to.

Spirit Ex Machina

Honestly, I like this book series. I want to say that up front.

With that said, one phrase, "It needed a hint of spirit." Spirit solves EVERYTHING. Not sure how to protect, use any element and add, what was it that it needs??? Ah, spirit, that's it!! Spirit is exactly what it needs! need to boost your magic?? Just add spirit. Need to cast Sending? Use spirit and whisper. Need to ping other magic casters? Send out a wave of spirit with another element. Need to overcome an issue? Add spirit! Need to overpower an enemy that's using all the elements??? Oh, what's that? They're only using four elements? That means to meet to add spirit to win.

I get the themes of self discovery and empowerment. But please lighten up on the overuse of this one word. This McGuffin is beaten to death, raised from the dead, nursed back to health, put on a torture rack, wrung out, and brought back behind the shed to be shot in the morning. And then that's repeated a few times.

So as long as you can get over that. It's a great read.

Sincerely,

Virgil Allen Moore

Read on if you like it

If you are continuing this series, probably you like it. I'll not be the rain on parade day. Just, when you are ready to climb the ladder to more sophisticated literature, there are lots of choices out there. Look for authors that don't repeat the same words multiple times on every page. And I got tired of reading about what Tolan thinks.
