About this listen

If you are one of the 70 million Americans counting on your 401(k) plan to usher you into a comfortable old age, you're likely to be bitterly disappointed. Rather than benefit the employee, 401(k) plans reward employers, brokers, investment advisors, fund managers, insurance companies, unions, and lobbyists. Relying on these plans makes it increasingly difficult to retire comfortably.

In his straight-forward, no-nonsense style, best-selling author Daniel R. Solin offers the new rules for investing for retirement. He shows readers how to quickly and simply determine their own needs, get control of their assets, avoid scams and sucker bets, discover untapped resources at retirement, and eventually get income out of tax deferred plans - the smart way.

Good for beginners and the curios minds

Loved this audio! very informative and it explains everything in detail. I'm still learning about the stock market and 401K and this audio really helped. I would definitely recommend it.

Great start

Great start. Great for learning the anatomy of the 401k and 403b system. I still need to learn more to know exactly what to do actually with funds. Would be great to have a “choose your own adventure” investment strategy book in order to weed through the options in a practical way.

Great concepts- outdated data

The concepts and suggestions are actionable and presented in a manner easy to understand. The references and specific data in the book are outdated.

Learned about annuities

Another book regarding retirement accounts, sadly this one is cut short. I did get introduced into annuities so that is great.

Educational

This is one of those books that you listen to/read multiple times. It’s packed with a lot of useful information that I believe everyone should learn.

Outstanding content and advice

Great information provided in a simple and straightforward way. The advice was spot on and extremely high in substance to word ratio. He could have dragged it out 3x to 4x longer … but it’s power is in its brevity.

Only negative is that a PDF of the appendix should be provided to set forth the allocation strategies and other graphs.

What's the point?

While new to understanding retirement and 401k, this book left me with more questions and less answers.

A good intro to thinking about retirement accounts

So over the last year or so, I’ve been on a quest to learn all of the things about personal finance that nobody was able to hand down to me. And on that quest, I have learned quite a lot. This book has been very helpful and helping me and the rest of my family understand the difference between the different retirement offerings out there, with the benefits and drawbacks are of each, and has helped us begin to build a strategy that involves multiple accounts, and an overall stable portfolio strategy. Like many have said though, it’s not the most page turning book in the world, but when it comes to finance… There are generally two types of books, ones that are useful in terms of the raw advice they offer, and ones that inspire you to do better. And I would say this falls into the former category more so than the latter.

401k is not considered a Long Term Investment

If you regularly save money and you use a 401k to do so you need to listen to this Book, its packed with useful information, take advantage of the Tax Rates of Long term capital Gains on your savings which will not apply on your 401k even though you potentially be saving there for decades.
