About this listen

The local society could only speculate how a pair of turtledoves would cope as the guests of the scandalous Lady Dacey. Surely she would attempt to corrupt them - an act that both Pamela Perryworth and Honoria Goodham would see as welcome entertainment in their rigid, joyless lives.

Though Mrs. Perryworth is married - most unhappily - and the young Honoria has a cloying tendency to read too much scripture, the purity and loveliness of both ladies nonetheless inflames the senses of two notorious lords. Mr. Sean Delaney loses his heart at first sight of the fair Mrs. Perryworth, while the disreputable Duke of Ware is quite disturbed by the innocent Honoria, who unknowingly dares to tempt his jaded heart.

Fun

These are predictable but such fun, uplifting quick reads. I must have listened to 20 or more of them. Highly recommend the Poor Relations series! It is laugh out loud funny!

ah-NOR-ee-ah

Earned a respectable B+ from me.

Besides inwardly flinching each time the narrator called her
“on-o-REE-ah” 🫤

…and despite my brain’s default method of trying to “make it make sense,” by substituting the error with an ACTUAL word (which unfortunately turned out to be words like seborrhea, diarrhea, or the perfectly-rhyming gonorrhea)🤦‍♀️

BESIDES all that, I actually really liked this one! 👍

I’ve passed up this title many times in favor of other books. Now that I finally took a chance on it, I am happy to discover it didn’t totally suck. 😆

Incidentally and for posterity, here it is again:

☑️ Honoria
▪️ah-NOR-ee-ah
▪️female of “Honorius”
▪️kinda rhymes with “Victoria”
▪️”ah-NOR-ee-ah” like “vic-TOR-ee-ah”
▪️also kinda rhymes with “Dysphoria”
▪️ please just don’t rhyme it with gonorrhea

Interesting characters

The story was light but still engaging. Most of the books in this series are well done. This will not disappoint those looking for a cute escape.

A quick, easy listen

This is meant to be a light romance and an easy listen without any disturbing elements. I liked Mia C.'s narration and overall enjoyed the book while doing housework.

Egad, the mispronounced name.

I just wanted to relax with a bit of MC Beaton/Marion Chesney fluff, but besides ignoring the sillier parts, I was driven a bit mad by the narrator pronouncing the protagonists name (Honoria), which should have been pronounced /on-OR-ia/, as /HonorEEA/, (rhymes with gonorrhea). 🥴
