About this listen

The Seventh Gate is the thrilling conclusion to the New York Times bestselling Death Gate Cycle by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman. In this tale of treachery, power, and heroism, Alfred, Haplo, and Marit embark on a journey of death and discovery as they seek to enter the dreaded Seventh Gate. Mike Rossi You Did it Again,

Wow, what a ride. As you know my great bud and genre guru Mike Rossi always steers me straight. This series was no exception. The characters and story has steadily built into this wonderful conclusion. If you’ve read to this point and are on the fence about getting the final book… Look in the mirror and ask yourself, “What would Mike do?”

The Deathgate Cycle has been in my top three stories for years and I was so happy to see it pop up on audible so I could listen to it.

Best narrator of all time

I’ve never heard any other reader who could play so many characters so well. I love this book series and I love these authors, and they held up well from my first read in the 1990s to my relisten in the 2020s. What makes them outstanding is the reader of this series. he is incredible. Honestly, I could listen to him read the phone book.

And then they became one.

The ending is the best of the series and all the previous stories have come together nicely with why everything happened and how to correct past mistakes. If you’re this far you know you like the series, but defiantly listen to these in order. Narrator is good but he does draw out the story a bit slowly, I ended up using 1.3x for speed. Truthfully, I enjoyed this series by reading them vs. listening to them as I did find my mind sometimes wondering with a lot during the narrating.

just finished this series.

An interesting idea, centered on the idea of balance. There's an undercurrent speaking against arrogance & discrimination. it's not hard to see, but I didn't mind it. I'm also against discrimination. There's plenty left to fill in, insofar as stories. The author could write another 3 books to cover these. My guess is, considering her historic Dragonlance series, she left room to do just that, should this be such a hit. There were a number of characters to become attached to, some unlikely. When you, as a good person, find yourself liking a not so good character, the author is doing well. Conceptual ideas of magic were inspired. Anyway, all in all, enjoyable.
