Superb!

I’ve only recently discovered Barnes. I find the intellectual introspection both instructive and restorative regarding that drive to piece together an accurate account of ourselves, or extract a valuation of our lives via our impact on others while contending with the mire of our own subjectivity. So much focus is placed on the validation that others give to us, but this novel asks not, “do you see me?”, but rather focuses on “ do I/can I/ how do I see me?”. A life-long toil beautifully punctuated by Simon Vance’s narration.

Amazingly novel

Learn about life, friendship and the essence of love. Be amazed about what you thought you knew. Understand how life reveals to us it’s secrets and wisdom. You will end this book w a smile on your face and a light in you soul.

I had to Wiki to understand the ending

I started this book expecting a dramatic turn of events. I ended up having to Wiki the ending to figure out what the real issue was. It isn't apparent and not very dramatic. I was ultimately disappointed.

Great stort

Amazing. Could not put it down. The reader was top notch. Worth a second read.

Worthy of discussion

This was very good. Great narration. It makes you question everything: truth, other people’s truth and memories, your own memories. There’s a lot to think about after reading this.

Elegant

Thoughtful, beautifully written, and I must admit I did not see the end coming.
When it was done I was left with the feeling I wanted more.

It’s like a psychological crime investigation as our unreliable narrator tries to piece back his previous life and memories from items and people that could provide some corroboration. And discover startling differences and shocking revelations.

Simply brilliant- both the story and the narration.
Narrator gives the book a rare depth and dimension.
What a joy to listen.

You still don't get it do you?

No - I don't - and I never will.
What the hell happened?
Did Adrian sleep with Veronica's mother? Why did Veronica's mother want him to have the diary?
I'm so confused but not willing to listen to it again.

Crazy Twist

For such a short book it felt like a long read— so much information is disclosed in the last 30minutes of listening. I’ll definitely listen again… it’ll will be interesting to see the narrative take shape with ending revealed. Beautifully narrated.
