About this listen

Now featuring updated audio files addressing reviewer complaints of sound quality!

The Dissolution is coming.

Eighteen-year-old recluse Sam van Oen lives with his aunt near Charleston, South Carolina. He takes online college courses, works in technical support, and tries not to remember the freak storm that killed his parents 10 years ago.

But never leaving the house fuels his anxiety, and his hoarding brings up memories he doesn’t want to have. Just as Sam gathers courage to send in his application for college away from home, the temperature drops, and the sun goes dim. Ice forms in August, and a portal opens up in his fireplace. This time, Sam can't run.

This time, he's sucked in.

Now, Sam must survive in the Nether, the flourishing capital of 10 alien species, home to thousands who can change the symphony underlying the universe and alter reality. Sam’s anxiety attacks and fear of crowds transforms the Nether into a frightening, expansive city. To find his home again, Sam must learn to control the music inside him, while devastating voids threaten to destroy the Nether and everyone he has grown to love.

The books seems good, but narrator has sound issue

While the book seemed interesting the narrator had a low sound quality and sounded like he was further down a tunnel from away me, He did a good job on voices from what I could hear, but he did seem to go quite fast, so wasnt as enjoyable as it could have been.

Maybe later on I will get the e-book to read myself without having this sound issue, it was too distracting from the book itself.

New author to me

The best comment and compliment I can say about this book? It puts me in mind of Piers Anthony and both the immortal and xanth series. OK I don't know if this will be helpful to everyone but to someone who has my taste in fantasy and adventure you'll get it...

A very interesting listen

I really enjoyed this book. The characters are really interesting and I was drawn into the story. I will definitely be reading the second book.
In seeing other reviews, I just wanted to add that this might be a slightly lower quality recording, but nothing that stopped me from listening or something I really even noticed.
I did enjoy that the author spoke at a normal pace, so I didn't have to speed it up like I do with a lot of other books.

WOW

Disclaimer: I received a copy of this book for an honest review.

I read a lot... a lot a lot, so I am fairly picky when it comes to books. I’ve read many similar story lines and ideas, but this book is mind-blowingly different. I absolutely love the music-theme Tracy used instead of the typical ideas, and having a living, breathing, ANXIOUS main character is a breathe of fresh air. I love that he doesn’t shy away from writing about the hard times, and I love that he includes some LGBT+ representation! There are just so many things I loved about this book. For anyone who is a fan of sci-fi/ fantasy, this book is a must read. I would even say if you are not a fan of that genre, try it out because the ideas are so refreshing and unique!! Thank you William Tracy for providing this wonderful book; I can’t wait for the others!

(One negative: the recording has a slight echo/tinny tone that bothered me for a while, but I got used to it.)

based on narration alone

I honestly can't review the story as the sound quality wasn't very good. I had my volume all the way up and still at times it was hard to hear; sounded like in a tunnel or just far off

Good fun story

I enjoyed this book and would recommend it to friends. The narration seemed slightly echoey but was not such a distraction that I could not enjoy the story. This is a well thought out world with a nice variety of characters.

great story

*I have recieved this audiobook for free for an honest review*

I love the story, I like the characters, I am encouraged by the use of gender neutral and the openness between the characters. The audio seems like it is told in an empty hallway, but otherwise it's really good. I will be getting the next book in the series.

Interesting Story!

Once I got into this story, I became totally hooked as I wanted to find out what could possibly happen next. The various characters in the story were very intriguing and different. The mystery of the life-destroying voids will keep you guessing as you wonder who is behind them, how do they happen, and what is their ultimate purpose. This book kind of ends abruptly, so you’ll definitely want to get the next book in the series to find out what happens next. The narrator did a good job with the various voices, but I was not a fan of the voice he used for the brief introduction to each chapter as he was really hard to understand. (Complaints on the sound quality of this audiobook should be ignored as I found nothing wrong with the volume or quality of the recording. Perhaps it was the device they were using…) I voluntarily reviewed this after receiving a free copy.

Fantastic book.

Loved listening to this story. Great writing and adventures. Kept me listening way past my bedtime. Just hated to stop and not know what was going to happen.
