About this listen

When a mysterious invisible barrier appears on a Montana ranch, no one knows what to think of it.

Drake, a retired police detective, receives a call in the dead of night from an alien-obsessed podcaster. He hastily departs for Montana the following morning.

The phenomenon continues all over the globe. What are they? What do they mean?

Britt is on assignment for a digital magazine when she encounters one of the Glass in a tragic boating accident, leaving her no choice but to follow the lead. Panic ensues as mysterious creatures are sighted.

Will has never left the relative safety of his small town, having begun to accept a life he doesn’t want. Now he must venture into the unknown with the girl of his dreams.

The Glass seem innocuous, until they start to glow…

Ransom, a washed-up Broadway actor and single father, tends bar in the Upper West Side. His daughter shares his knack for knowing things, and they head west as their intuition guides them to the source.

Together they must discover the truth behind the Glass, or risk losing their world forever.

The Other Place is an epic post-apocalyptic science fiction tale from the best-selling author of Lost Contact and First Life, brought to you in audio format by award-winning narrator R.C. Bray.

Engaging and a Great Listen

To be honest, my initial thoughts about this book was “Oh, it’s going to be a recycled ‘Under the Dome” — I was so wrong. While not a SciFi “Thinker” or Space Opera, the story really holds its own. I really enjoyed the pace and creativity. The characters are interesting and believable, The plot is easy to follow but not boring — spiced with just enough mystery to keep you interested. Great listen. Definitely one of my faves this year.

Golden

Yet another work of art. Any great story can become legendary when you put sci-fi in the hands of R.C. Bray to narrate.

Just OK

Maybe 3.5 stars, I'd say it was mildly entertaining, and there were parts where I wanted to keep reading, but it didn't quite have enough. A few unexplained pieces, maybe it's taking it slow to explain more in the next book, but that's too slow for me and I'm not curious enough to continue the series.

Meh

I was expecting something different. This plot seems to follow the new trend of mysterious doorways into the multiverse. Wasn’t this the show “Sliders”? Of course it has to be a post apocalyptic world. The who and why of the beings were never clearly explained

Great story. Loved the characters. RC Bray as usual did a great job. I’ll preorder book 2 for sure.

Trippy creepy. Awesome And fun!

Invisible barriers which are named the glass start appearing all over the world. They originate in Montana, and spread around the country very quickly contaminated air emanates from them, and it kills off a significant part of the population, and also carnivorous. Creatures emerge from the glass and attack the citizens of earth. This is not a zombie story however so don’t worry about the usual clichés the zombie apocalypse books always have. Some third-party is creating these glasses and causing the invasion of earth. Beyond that I don’t wanna say too much as I don’t want to give away spoilers there are a group of people, one of whom is a six year old girl who have dreams about the future and about just what is causing these glasses to appear everywhere. This book is definitely worth spending a credit on you’ll be. Pleasantly surprised

This is my first Nathan Hystad novel & will not be the last! I selected this book mostly because it's narrated by RC Bray & well ...RC Bray! also, the storyline was interesting. I'm excited to read more from Nathan Hystad 4.8 solid stars :)

Poor writing mars a good performance by RC Bray

This is an intriguing story plot, but I kept getting distracted by the awkward writing, especially the dialog. Many of the characters just don't speak like normal humans speak. Also, if you decide to try the book, listen to how many times the author uses the word "gaze" or "gazed". You won't be able to unhear it now that I've mentioned it. A good editor should have caught this overuse of a word.

RC Bray is one of my favorite narrators - he's a total pro and I listened to the whole book because of his performance and because the story is interesting. But because of the writing, I don't know if I'll continue to book 2. There are too many other good books to read.

Not a stand-alone book

I knew this was first of a series efore axquiring it, but i always hope I am not purchasing a cliffhanger. It is an interesting story which kept my interest. Some major parts of the storyline are resolved at the end, but more issues are introduced to make this book unresolved without going on to the next book. I wish books in a series were listed as also being stand-alones; it would help me decide if I wanted to purchase them.
