About this listen

A bit of adventure and quick cash is all that good-natured drifter Anthony Cade is looking for when he accepts a messenger job from an old friend. It sounds so simple: deliver the provocative memoirs of a recently deceased European count to a London publisher. Little did Anthony suspect that a simple errand to deliver the manuscript on behalf of his friend would drop him right in the middle of an international conspiracy, and he begins to realize that it has placed him in serious danger. Why were Count Stylptich's memoirs so important? And what was "King Victor" really after? The parcel holds ore than scandalous royal secrets - because it contains a stash of letters that suggest blackmail. Someone would stop at nothing to prevent the monarchy being restored in faraway Herzoslovakia.

Wherever ravishing Virginia Revel went, death seemed sure to follow. First her husband died. The next to perish was a foreign prince whose ruthless power was matched by his scandalous passions. Then a bungling blackmailer followed them into the grave. Murder, blackmail, stolen letters, and a fabulous missing jewel: all under the not always co-operative eyes of Scotland Yard and the Surete. All threads lead to Chimneys, one of England's historic country house estates, where a master murderer mingled with the aristocratic guests. Virginia could turn to only one person to prove her innocence and end her nightmare, and she could only pray that she had not put her life into the hands of the man who was out to take it....

Very good

Narration was spot on. I sometimes needed to rewind but that was because I would get interrupted. It’s a fun story and well performed.

Well Done

The story teller was wonderful. His voice for each character was well done. As all Agatha Christie books it keeps you guessing until the end. I really enjoyed it.

excellent

This is in top 3 of my favorite Agatha Christie novels, and it's superb delivery only enhances and influences my choice. No Hercule or Miss Marple in this intricately plotted story...it's Inspector Battle who reflects the psychological prowess of the Grand Author

Inspector Battle

I am familiar with Miss Marple, Hercule Poitou, Tommy and Tuppence but this is the first Inspector Battle novel I’ve read. As usual, Agatha Christie keeps you guessing who the real culprit is. Most of the action is around Anthony while Inspector Battle is less central to the story. I enjoyed the story but not the reader so much. Men, especially English, should never try to do a woman’s voice in an audible book.

Enjoyable

I enjoyed this book immensely. I thought I had it figured out but as usual, the plot twists and sure enough I’m wrong. I’m very late to reading Agatha Christie but I’m so glad they have been brought to Audible, my main source of reading for the last year.

very interesting and entertaining

Great plot. Never guessed the ending. The performance was excellent. I enjoyed the different British accents. There were a lot of amusing moments, as well.

A new favorite

I always enjoy Christie stories (with the exception of Tommy and Tuppence whose obnoxious “old stick” slang dialogue grates on me), but some of her mysteries rise above others and this is one of them. Hilariously written and (with a few exceptions that are forgivable because the story leans toward comedy and uses some comedy tropes), wonderfully, cleverly, and enjoyably plotted, this will be one I will return to again and again.

Excellent narration.

You can not guess how the ending ends.

This book is nothing like the tv version. you have to read the whole book.
