About this listen

After a summer spent trying to prevent a catastrophic war among the Greek gods, Percy Jackson finds his seventh-grade school year unnervingly quiet. His biggest problem is dealing with his new friend, Tyson, a six-foot-three, mentally challenged homeless kid who follows Percy everywhere, making it hard for Percy to have any "normal" friends.

"Adventure follows chaotic adventure at a rapid pace, and readers with even a passing acquaintance with the Odyssey will enjoy this fresh use of familiar stories." (School Library Journal)

Percy Jackson is the eponymous hero of the best-selling Percy Jackson and the Olympians series by Rick Riordan. He made his debut in The Lightning Thief at just 12 years old, where he discovered the shocking truth about his parentage: He is a demigod, the son of a mortal woman and the god Poseidon. Beyond his own series, he was one of the protagonists in the Heroes of Olympus series and has since appeared in other spin-off novels and series from Riordan.

Genuinely Wonderful Teen Writer

My teenage daughter loves to read and has thoroughly enjoyed Riordan's books. I have also read these stories and they are very well written. I am an extremely difficult to please reader and I actually enjoyed this book. I prefer paper to my MP3 but the plot and story line was well thought out and planned. The flow is great and the Greek history or Greek God stories actually play a phenomenal part in the stories. The way the author flows the historical stories of the Greek gods with the present is inspiring and just fun. He leaves something for the next book and keeps you wanting more. I believe Rick Riordan is very talented writer and I read about 30 to 40 novels per year and listen to the same amount.

excellent book good performance

Rick Riordan is a master story teller, I really love his modernization of Greek mythology in these books. The introduction of Tyson made this book for me. One question though why did Blackjack change genders? This is the only book where the character is a mare.

Wonderful yet again

Since watching both of the films I finally can say I enjoyed the books as well, But now that film series has ended and I begin uncertain but excited for what is to come, Jesse did a wonderful job yet again and I look forward to him reading through the rest of the series for me to enjoy.

Brilliant storytelling!

This book series was one of my favourites growing up. Now, working most of the time, I have discovered the joy of audio books and was brilliantly surprised by how much I missed (and accurately remember) these stories. My younger sister begged to listen to the first one with me, and was hooked. We zipped past this book in 1 day!As a past reader, I can say, that I genuinely and thoroughly enjoyed this audio book! As for my younger sister, she screamed "b****y brilliant! Can we start the next one already?!" We clearly can't wait to start the next one!

The plot thickens

This was another fun listen and a great continuation of the Percy Jackson story. I enjoy the new mythology brought into the story. This is a great adventure/mystery listen.

Old metrology in modern clothing worn well!

Great writing and storytelling by the author. The narrator did a great job with all of the voices. Really looking forward to the continuation.

An excellent addition to the Percy Jackson series.

If you could sum up The Sea of Monsters in three words, what would they be?

Intertaining, exciting, wonderful

What other book might you compare The Sea of Monsters to and why?

Any series by Rick Riordan. Percy Jackson, The Lost Heros, the Kane Chronicles. Unlikely hero's that makes mistake and learn to accept the pain of responsiblities. To me it is a simple case of not giving up until the last card is played...which often takes the characters to the point of breaking.

Which character – as performed by Jesse Bernstein – was your favorite?

I loved them all.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Courage isn't the lack of fear but the ability to act in the face of it. Loyality isn't something that you give because it's easy, you give it because it's deserved.

Any additional comments?

I am 59 years old. My kids got me back into reading with another series but when I finished that I decided to give Rick's series a chance and fell in love with the characters. It became an addiction with the only cure being the next addition to the series.

Instead of writting a series and ending it, basically throwing away that set characters to create another series with new characters, Rick has extended the scope of his worlds. He blends new characters with older characters to form new set of stories. He acknowledges the existence of these worlds with others.

Greeks, Romans, Egyptians, and hints of possible Nordic series. Young inexperieced people learning to depend on themselves and to rely on the friendships they make. Each struggling with normal growing up problems with the addition of becoming heros

Like the story, narration wasn't my favorite

I really like the Percy Jackson books in general. It's a cute storyline, creative, very fun to read even though it's technically for kids. However, I think in my case I prefer actually reading these books to listening to them. The narrator was great about making different voices for different characters, but I can't say I liked all the voices... Now, this could be a completely different story for someone else, and I think kids especially would really like this because it really brings the story to life just like when a parent reads their kid a story with funny voices. For me, I just prefer reading it myself. Still great though!
