The greatest threats are the ones unseen....

For what seems like the first time, Elena and her friends are happy. Elena and Stefan have built a home for themselves in Dalcrest, and all of Elena’s friends are as in love as she and Stefan are. Even Damon is enjoying visiting his favorite old haunts in Europe, and is more surprised than anyone that he’s traveling with Katherine. But lately, Elena’s Guardian senses are on edge, and she can’t ignore the feeling that danger is coming.

When a new threat arrives in Dalcrest, Elena’s worst fears become a reality. Soon, she and Stefan are battling a vicious Old One who is always just out of their reach. And when Damon and Katherine are confronted with a strange and mysterious enemy, Elena worries the attacks are linked.

As dark forces close in, Elena, Stefan, and Damon struggle to survive the only way they know how - together. But their lives are hanging in the balance, and every moment they share could be their last....

Think I'm Too Old for This One

Normally I'm fine with a YA read. But this one just didn't seem to sync with me. The story is decent, and the writing is good. I just couldn't seem to get into the characters much. I felt like these characters had all been introduced in another book I had not read. There is also a lot of angst in this story.

For me, this was not a hit. But I'm pretty positive I was not the target market on this one. Young adult readers who enjoy paranormal romance with a fair amount of angst will probably enjoy this one.

Awesome

This story has quite a few twists and turns that mirror what I anticipated after watching The Vampire Diaries TV series.

While the story does not focus on Bonnie or Damon as much as the previous installments, I still thought that this was a very good book.

The writing has gotten so much better since I first began the series and I actually enjoy the story now versus within the first three or four books.

What I thought was interesting was that Damon and Katherine become friends who are traveling around together. Matt finally finds a girlfriend that he really likes but he isn’t sure that he can share the big bad secret with her. Bonnie expands her magic. Alaric still doesn’t have as big of a role as he does during the show but that’s alright. No Tyler or Caroline. Stefan and Elena are insufferable like usual. The Wolf Pack is still around.

I think the biggest thing for me to get used to and comparing the TV series in the books is that Elena is apparently this kick ass magical being and the backstory for how she became that has been very enjoyable to read. In addition, Catherine isn’t as much of a badass or a threat as she is in the tv show, which adds an entire layer of missed storytelling opportunity but that’s okay.

The twist at the end got me though and I wonder where it will go from here. 😢

Narrator Auto Voice

The experience was pretty dull. The narrator was or sounded to be an auto generated voice.

Least interesting of the whole set

Not worth the read and rushed. The whole thing didn’t really elaborate on major things left unanswered
