About this listen

At long last, millions of Dune fans can now hear the unpublished chapters and scenes from Dune and Dune Messiah.

The Road to Dune also includes the original correspondence between Frank Herbert and famed editor John W. Campbell, Jr.; excerpts from Herbert's correspondence during his years-long struggle to get his innovative work published; and the article, "They Stopped the Moving Sands", Herbert's original inspiration for Dune.

The Road to Dune features newly discovered papers and manuscripts and also "Spice Planet", an original 60,000 word short novel by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson, based on a detailed outline left by Frank Herbert. The Road to Dune is a treasure trove of essays, articles, and fiction that every Dune fan will want to add to their collection.

Featured Article: The Definitive Dune Explainer

The new Dune movie is based on the classic sci fi novel, the first book in an extensive series launched by author Frank Herbert and kept going by writers who took up the helm after his death. The trailer for the upcoming film was released last fall, and since then, speculation and excitement have been swirling around the movie. At three minutes long, the trailer itself is a beautiful masterpiece, and it teases many of the important characters and aspects from the story. This post will give you a basic understanding of the book, its history, and everything you need to know about Dune to get you ready for the movie!

As a dedicated "Herberts'/Anderson" fan I found this audiobook, to say the least, fascinating and informative. I'm so very gald that "Spiceworld" never made it to publication in novel form, we would never have had "Dune" nor would have Frank Herbert become, at least not at that time, a household name or a very revered SF author. "The Road to Dune" is a great listen and I am pleased to have added it to my collection. I really enjoyed the "Dune" short stories, the possibilities are endless for the imagination, one can visualize any number of volumes based on any give character. Imagine "Erasmus Tales", if you would :)

Anything that comes from the Herbert's or Mr. Anderson is exelent. This reminds me of the special features disk that seems to come behind every new movie, except better. This book gives insight into the mind of Frank Herbert.

You get to see how it was reworked with advice from others colleagues writing and rewriting. How an idea crew grew to a novel that is like a college curriculum in socioeco-
political psychology
