Publisher's summary

An imprisoned prince. A vengeful queen. And a battle that will determine the future of Elfhame.

Prince Oak is paying for his betrayal. Imprisoned in the icy north and bound to the will of a monstrous new queen, he must rely on charm and calculation to survive. With High King Cardan and High Queen Jude willing to use any means necessary to retrieve their stolen heir, Oak will have to decide whether to attempt regaining the trust of the girl he’s always loved or to remain loyal to Elfhame and hand over the means to end her reign—even if it means ending Wren, too.

With a new war looming on the horizon and treachery lurking in every corner, neither Oak’s guile nor his wit will be enough to keep everyone he loves alive. It’s just a question of whom he will doom.

From the #1 New York Times bestselling author Holly Black comes the stunning blood-soaked conclusion to the Stolen Heir duology.

A good ending to the series

I didn’t like how the narrator went about it, it made it seem almost childlike. I might have loved it more if I read instead of listening. Overall the book was good, and a nice ending to the series

I never wanted it to end

I was upset at first that they had a different narrator from The Stolen Heir bc I love Saskia so much, but this narrator blew me away with his talent and range! The story and writing was as lovely as the first book in this series and I hope there is still more

Another great story

The story was very well written and very creative. I love all of Hollly Black's books! It was a bit odd at first to switch from a female narrator in the first book to a male in the second, but they were both great. I would have liked it more if they were both used in the story. I'm not sure why that doesn't happen more often.

loved!

I have loved the entire series. I like paranormal fantasy....usually with smut. This series was great without it and I was able to listen with my kid in my car. The characters, descriptions, world building, and narration is top notch!

A decent ending to the duology

Oak is still not my favorite point of view character from Holly Black, but it’s still a good read.

Good - but mistakes

I’m only on Chapter 3 but it appears there were already two errors in the reading performance. “Im-placeable” was said when the word “implacable” would’ve made sense in context and “ MINute” as in a measure of time was read when it should’ve been “minUTE” as in tiny in context with the sentence. It’s surprising these errors weren’t caught and corrected and I expect I’ll hear more as the book continues.

Well written & Cruel Prince LOVERS will die!

I love that the second book in the duology is Oak POV and the first being Ren's. it's just goes so well and now I want to relisten to Cruel prince trilogy!
Holly Black never disappoints in her whimsical but also dark fantasies!!!

I like how the characters where depicted.

The story overall was great. There was somethings about the story that a little confusing and also not enjoyable, but it was just small things. I love the characters and how it was a continuation of the Stolen Heir

Fantastic Conclusion!

The VA gave a wonderful performance in giving the entire cast of new and beloved characters life in this conclusion.

The story wraps up so well. Whereas the stolen heir was a little slower paced, all themes and narrative threads are picked up and finished in full here. Once again, the author has given us a story that delights, thrills, and makes us reflect. The wait for this sequel was agonising but worth every moment of anxious anticipation!

Loved seeing my babies Jude and Cardan again

Really loved the narrators voice and how it changed for each character! I do wish we had Wrens’s point of view in this book as well …..maybe switching from oak to wren to get to know them each a little bit better…but I just love being back in elfhame, so I’ll take what I can get. Overall for me, seeing and Jude and Cardan again were the highlights of the book. They are just top tier, their chemistry is unmatched and I can’t wait for another book in Jude’s pov again
