Publisher's summary

Today, we are experiencing a profound spiritual abuse of Western individualism. As a counselor and pastor, many have come to me seeking help for the dilemma of feeling alone in the world of me. Finding yourself in a crowd, you still feel alone. You think no one is listening; no one understands. There is a void, an emptiness, that is trying to be filled but with little success. We are alone, in despair, and lost in a maze of thought rooted in a culture of "me" instead of embedded in a Biblical concept of "us." Throughout the Bible, the "Principle of Us" is seen from the beginning of creation, where an "us" God, a Holy Trinity, creates humankind in a facsimile of itself. It is an "us" God who created an "us" family who lives together in an "us" world. We are lonely, alienated, and misplaced, for we have, both in and out of the Christian community, created an individualism that is rooted in a worldview not sanctioned in the Bible. This book will explore the "Principle of Us" as lived out in prayer, worship, relationship, suffering, marriage, and community. It is not a self-help book but an us-help book as we seek to live out life in the plurality of life and the joys that follow. For too long, we have sought to find significance and hope in a world of self-love, self-fulfillment, self-awareness, and all the other selves that follow. It did not work in the field of psychology, and it is not working well in the area of theology as well. There is a better way.

There is a worldview that makes the triune God the center of all things and the "us" as a created force that unites an "us" world, which leads to a change for good and a realignment with God and man. Therefore, in this book, we will examine this basic Biblical principle and see how it is lived out, thought out, and acted upon. We will find that the "Principle of Us" pushes back the loneliness of our society and the depression that many are suffering through. It is one of the principles that link Biblical stories and characters and helps you to release the "us" created in you.
