About this listen

DS George Cross delves deep into the world of dirty politics in this Bristol detective series perfect for fans of Peter James and Joy Ellis.

At first glance, the murder of Peggy Frampton looks like a burglary gone wrong. But DS George Cross, with his meticulous methods, thinks otherwise. The victim, a former mayor of Bristol, is now an online influencer whose forthright opinions attract the kind of attention that most people would like to avoid.

There's no shortage of suspects. Cross's investigation will lead him from Peggy's unfaithful husband to her gambling-addicted son, to a scorned former lover with a grudge. But she also has political enemies in her past.

Cross will have to navigate a dark maze of seedy connections to find the truth–but can he do it before the killer strikes again?

The Politician is a part of the DS George Cross thriller series, which can be read in any order.

“I am insanely in love with George Cross, a perfect detective for our time and for all time” STEPHEN FRY

“Sullivan has given us a British detective for the 21st century who will be hard to forget” DAILY MAIL

Brilliant Book

It’s a definite! I’m absorbed by DS Cross, a detective who has Asperger’s, his shortcomings in everyday relationships, his lack of social awareness and his dogged pursuit of a case are marvelous.
A high profile activist and counsellor is found dead in her bedroom. Presumed to have been killed by an intruder, a thief.
Then comes a later discovery that valuable family jewellery is missing. Most see the two connected. Cross doesn’t.
The case becomes more complicated as layers upon layers are uncovered, including a link through two sources to an Albanian crime family.
On the personal side Cross is starting to question why his mother disappeared so long ago.
His partner DS Josie Ottey is both annoyed by Cross and yet pleased to be partnered with him. The whole driving aspect was amusing. Josie finds herself part chauffeur and partner. Cross has no ego that necessitates he takes control, only pursuit of the case to the exclusion of others’ feelings. In fact their feelings actually flummox him.
A quirky character, I was delighted, charmed and amused by Cross. By his total focus, and the response to him by others around him. I was inspired to read previous novels in the series. Loved them! Great!

My Favorite New Series

I can't wait until April for the 5th book in the series to come out. I am delighted by the characters, story lines and writing.
The narrator is growing on me. He was a little stiff in the third book but relaxed a bit in the fourth.
Thank you, Tim Sullivan for a fabulous series

This series keeps getting better!

I have really enjoyed learning the evolving details about George, his family and colleagues in the MCU as he uses his detective skills to eventually solve the murder. I hope the series will continue. The narrater did an excellent job.

Brilliant in every way

I have read all the books in the DS Cross series and they are among my very favorites. They are beautifully written, and beautifully narrated, and the characters are so real. You forget they don’t exist in real life. This fourth book, however, is especially great. I had a tear in my eye when I finished. I have such affection for each character. Tim Sullivan knocked it out of the park with this one. This is a series not to miss.

Excellent Story!!!

Thank you Tim for a great read. The mystery with all of the possible villains and the culmination of George’s history, were well choreographed and though the true villain was not a complete surprise, the fleshing of their story layer by layer was good.

Again, thanks for a good read!!

Deeply satisfying.

I love everything about this series and the characters within it. I’d pre-ordered this book and it didn’t disappoint. The plot was interesting (if not hard to figure out) and the narration excellent. I’ll definitely be pre-ordering other Cross books in future.

Like the series but could really use a better narrator

The story is fine. Characters well developed. Looks like another character is being introduced. Unfortunately the narrator reads the story rather than performing. It does make a difference.

Not up to standard

The previous three were 'way ahead of this one; but that is exaggerated by the 'narration' ..
Whoever told this reader that the indefinite article must be pronounced like a politician does needs to be shot.
His pronunciation is faulty in other areas is not the best: impossible to describe my feelings when I heard him pronounce hyperbole as "hyper-bowl" ..
Reader aside, Tim has lost some of his verve for George.
Also: Josie. Why don't we get more about her as a person ?
