About this listen

Love, deception, and conspiracies in a post-apocalyptic America, this is how dystopia is created.

In the middle of the night an EMP attack destroys the power grid and havoc ensues at the hospital where Andie is working. There is one thing on her mind and that is to get home to her husband and daughter. She escapes a hospital on lockdown and abandons some of the most critical patients. Finding her way out of a city that’s been thrust into chaos isn’t easy and while Andie thinks making it home is the hard part, wait until you see who she runs into on the way home.

Not your usual EMP book

This book has some unique plot features that make this more of a dystopian book, and not just your standard EMP survival type. Characters are well done. The narrator is ok. The mens and children’s voices were a bit overdone and distracting. But at least she was engaging and kept a nice tempo.

Excellent narration of a great book!

A friend recommended this book to me and I'm really glad she did! This is a great book and the narrator really made the characters and their emotions come alive!

I highly recommend this book and look forward to the next one.

struggled with this one

I love post-apocalyptic books but I struggled with this one. I think the narration would have been better if the narrator had not tried to perform different voices. A lot of the voices kind of left me cringing. I feel like the story had potential but I found it odd how easy the main character just went with what was happening and found that pretty unbelievable.

Plot had potential but horribly written characters

I'm a big fan of post-apocalyptic stories, one of my favorites being the Emberverse series. The description of this book sounded intriguing, but I wasn't able to finish it. A lot of the book is the primary female character's inner monologue. It's so inconsistent and filled with gender stereotypes that I could not relate to this character at all. In fact, all of the characters in this book seem to be generic stereotypes with no depth. It's a shame that the characters were so shallow, because the plotline was interesting and could have made for a great read.
