A great deal but…

Five books for the price of one. Can’t complain about that. I’ve listened to it all the way through. These books are loosely researched and contain a hodgepodge of stereotypes—but the plots move along and they are listenable—but loose research is not enough. One of the books supposedly takes place in the Santa Cruz mountains where there is polygamous cult. Clearly abused women and girls humbly sell their vegetables at a downtown market. The author does not have a clue about these types of cults. They go to states like Utah and Colorado because the governments there will give them a free pass. Santa Cruz is the exact opposite of these places. There’s no way people would cluelessly buy vegetables from a clearly abused minor—does she know thatCPS exists? Someone would call it and when came out and saw the situation that would be the end—Santa Cruz is one of the most progressive towns I know and women and children’s rights are taken seriously there. So I felt really offended about that. I thought that this writer clearly doesn’t understand California culture and most definitely not Bay Area culture. It’s egregious.

I don’t like so much romance in my mysteries and by book 5 the romance is the dominant story. Any character not getting married is miserable because “no one cares” if they live or die. Again a stereotype…well what did I expect for 5 books for one credit. I would think authors today wouldn’t write under the shadow of the 1950s but sadly they still do.

Sappy Maudlin Romance

I loved the first Peyton Brooks mystery box set, before this FBI box set. The narrator though, was great!
I always skip over sappy romance drama, which was thankfully sparse in the earlier Peyton Brooks books. But this group of books oozed with adolescent angst ... page after page, after page. I couldn't finish it. I'm prejudiced against romance in books anyway, so my opinion is very biased.

This reader is horrible

I might be able to read the rest of this book except the narrator needs to grow up. The voice is very strident and quite ruins the book. I’m going to delete the whole set after listening to one and a half parts! Sorry you usually have much better narrators.

Peyton Continued

I loved all of the characters: Peyton, Marco, Jake, Maria, Abe, Stan, Marco’s family, they were all in her first series Peyton Brooks’ Murder Mysteries and now in FBI; Radar, Tank, and Bambi. I like how she relates to people they are full of suspense and action. My favorite was Werewolf in London. Recommend to anyone who likes murder mysteries with fun characters and good narration. Look forward to her next books (hope as box set also) as characters become like family. I was given this free review copy audiobook from Storytellers production at my request and have voluntarily left this review. THANK YOU!

Great Read

They Peyton Brooks, FBI Box Set: Volume One: Books 1-5 was a great read by M.L. Hamilton. THis box set consists of; Zombies in the Delta, Mermaids in the Pacific, Werewolves in London, Vampires in Hollywood, and Mayan Gods in the Yucatán. Zombies in the Delta (Peyton Brooks, FBI #1) was a great read by M.L. Hamilton. Peyton and Marco’s relationship may still be relatively new, but it has undergone some big changes. They both have new and demanding jobs while they struggle finding their equilibrium between professional and personal lives. Marco is also having a hard to accepting his own physical limitations and believes that Peyton is only staying with him because of guilt. Peyton knows that he is growing distance and starts worrying about it. Unfortunately she is afraid to confront him and add to the stress. There is a zombie killer in the Delta and Peyton has to focus on finding the elusive murderer. Mermaids in the Pacific (Peyton Brooks, FBI #2) was a great read by M.L. Hamilton. Peyton was hoping that new adventure and intrigue would come into her life now that she works for the FBI. She was assigned to the Ghost Squad, and everything is wrong. Her new boss, Radar, thinks that Peyton is looking to get his job. Her once full house is now empty with only her and her dog. Peyton feels sidelined while Marco is in a battle for his life. A mermaid is found floating off Natural Bridges State Beach. Peyton and her team may be sucked into a standoff between the federal government and a cult known as Horizon. Werewolves in London (Peyton Brooks, FBI #3) was another great read by M.L. Hamilton. In the first couple months with the FBI, Peyton has solved two cases. It seems as though her career is coming together. But her personal life is something else. Marco seems to want to work on their relationship, but building trust takes time. Everything is put on hold when an American student is killed in London. The Ghost Squad goes to London to catch a killer that seems to get bolder with each attack. He also howls after each kill. Vampires in Hollywood (Peyton Brooks, FBI #4) was a great read by M.L. Hamilton. Marco is still learning how to navigate his job as police captain. His personal relationship with Peyton is more challenging to navigate. Friction is caused between them when Marco finds himself jealous of her new friend Mike. Peyton and Tank are trying to gain traction in a cold case, when Radar’s wife provides them with their next case. Mayan Gods in the Yucatán (Peyton Brooks, FBI #5) was a great read by M.L. Hamilton. After Marco’s surgery, he has a long road of rehabilitation ahead of him. His precinct needs him to focus on the murder of a young serviceman who has ties to the Mayor. A DEA agent ends up going missing and the Ghost Squad is called to the Yucatán to investigate. They find themselves in a drug war between two countries. They are facing an adversary that will only be appeased in the blood of human sacrifice to an uneasy Mayan God. I loved listening to Kelley Hazen’s narration and can’t wait to read more by the author.

Surprise- This really isn't books 1-5

I liked these books very much. I just wish I had known these were not the original books with these characters - this is only book 1-5 in the sense that its book one AFTER she joins the FBI, but there is apparently whole series that covers when she was a cop. It was like walking in to the middle of a movie. Too bad, because it was a good movie - I wish I could have started in the right place. The references and summary's of her cop career in these books kind of robbed me of the desire to go back and find the cop series.

Also, for me, please if you are going to break the download into pieces - have a heart and break the files off at the beginning of each book.

good story

At first I wanted to give up and return this collection. The narration was bad and everything thing was given too much description, causing the story to go really slow.
Overall I am glad I listened on. I liked to stories, had me laughing. By book 3, you knew who did it on the law side of the book. But on the love stories are unpredictable.
