One of the best listens of the year

This series just keeps getting better. Great criminal procedural and mystery... but goes way beyond that with character development and interactions. We have enjoyed all before this third book, but each has gotten better than the previous. Very clever dialogues and subtle humor surrounding the context.

Narrator

I loved the story and overall no complaints really. I did get distracted by the narrator several times on this one though as it sounded like he was new at this and not as fluid as the narrator of the last two books

I just love this writing. I am addicted to series. Love the characters the mystery and the reader is perfect for the story .

AMAZING.I really like Cross

I Really enjoyed this book. Narration has changed but it too was great. The story really grabs you and let's you get to know Cross a lot more. Really great series and narration is perfect. Thank you

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The story was very interesting and kept my attention. Loved the characters. I highly recommend this book.

Nice listen

Slightly predictable but I loved the side stories. Good depth to characters. Not really a shocking ending.

Narrator...

I'll be returning this audio as the narrator's inability to maintain a consistent flow in dialogue is too distracting.

The best DS Cross so far (disappointing narration)

The best book in the series! Excellent story, but it struck me how important the narrator is. I absolutely bought into the characters in the first two books of the series! The narrator for books 1 and 2 (John Heffernan) was excellent with consistent characterization. Unfortunately the narrator of this book (Finlay Robertson) was inconsistent and narrated with varied tempo. The dialogue narration was not believable and stilted. Sometimes Cross sounded too weak and soft spoken and then the next moment abrasive. I could not glean personalities from narration at all. Some of the voices are so sleepy I was tempted to up the speed. Although I love this series the narration of The Patient was really a disappointment.

A series that gets better with each book

As lovely to read as watching a rose unfold. We get to know the characters gently as clever who-, how- and why-done its are revealed. The mind is curious and intrigued while the heart soothed and happy. I look forward to the next book/audio.
