Good story - but Title and Description is wrong

Any additional comments?

While the title and description describes a newcomer, we didn't see her till near the end. And I was never afraid that the newcomer would get the guy. Not. Even. For. A. Second. This is really the continuing story of the already established couples of Thunder Point. We see Cooper and Sarah, and Mac and Gina to great effect. The real stand out was Ashley's story. Her heartbreak and now she and her mom handled it was a real eye opener about the consequences of social media and dating. I loved the story. But the description was incorrect.

Great Story

Would you listen to The Newcomer again? Why?

Yes definitely.Lovely book and in time I would revisit it again.

What other book might you compare The Newcomer to and why?

I would compare the whole Thunder Point series to Susan Mallery's Fools Gold series.

What does Therese Plummer bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I can't say I prefer her to reading the book but I love listening to any books she has narrated. She is brilliant.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes. Usually I only listen when I am painting or crafting. With this book I wanted to keep on listening.

There’s a lot going on here

I liked this one, but not as much as The Wanderer. The author tried to cram way too many subplots into one book. I loved how she dealt with Ashley’s depression, but that AND steroids AND Mac’s long-lost ex AND a pregnancy scare AND Sarah’s impending reassignment? Yikes. The pregnancy scare in particular was so silly. I find it doubtful that Eve would think she was pregnant when she and Landon hadn’t even had sex. What was the point of that? To give their relationship some drama? To teach the (presumably adult) readers a lesson about safe sex? This plotline and the bit about Downey taking steroids seemed like “Very Special Episode” material.

Also, it’s becoming apparent to me that Robyn Carr is AWFUL at writing dialogue. There’s almost no conversations—everyone seems to just speak at each other in paragraphs. Everyone’s vernacular is the same, and it’s all awkward. I’m supposed to believe that Ashley, a seventeen-year-old in the 21st century, is using the phrases “grease monkey” and “toe jelly”? I’m twice her age, but I don’t think I’ve ever said those in my life.

Despite this, I’ll still listen to the next one. I want to see what happens with Cooper and Sarah, even though I find her super boring—her personality is defined by the men in her life. Therese Plummer’s narration was excellent, as always, and she’s the reason for the overall five-star review.

I love a community story with lots of relationships!

Excellent and responsible representation of teenage issues! I love the reader, but the male character voices are a little off.

It was light and easy to follow.

I have been really busy lately taming care of a terminally ill loved one. So, I have been trying to stick with light and fluffy reads. While this book does have real problems that arent necessarily what I would call light and fluffy, there is great resolution. I like the series so far. It has been excellent for getting my mind off the dark and dreary that is currently my life.
