Acerca de esta escucha

The emotional story of a young woman's journey as she leaves behind all the things she thought she wanted, only to discover who she really is. Number-one New York Times best-selling author Robyn Carr explores the challenges facing women today as they are valued for what's on the outside rather than the inside.

Jennifer Chaise is proud of her life. Coming from nothing, she's used her beauty to her advantage and is swept up in a glamorous world of wealth and privilege as the mistress of a high-flying businessman. But when she walks in on a violent scene in their Las Vegas hotel room, Jennifer knows she can no longer ignore the truth about her boyfriend, and she flees. Desperate to escape the men searching for her, she invents a whole new persona - with a new look and a new name - as she hides out in a small Nevada town.

Working as a waitress in the local diner, she finds a mentor in Louise, a retired professor who takes her in. As Jennifer begins to embrace a new life, she realizes how much was missing from her old one: a sense of community and purpose. But it's not easy to simply disappear. Her neighbor, Alex, is a cop, and while he's friendly enough, he may also suspect that Jennifer is not what she seems.

Although she is under constant threat of being discovered, Jennifer is surprised to realize that for the first time, she's genuinely happy. Suddenly this real world is all she wants. But will it be enough when her past catches up with her?

Therese Plummer made this an enjoyable listen.

As always, Therese Plummer did an awesome job on this Robyn Carr audio book. I have almost all of Robyn Carr's audio and I have enjoyed many of them a second and even a third time. But this story was not up to what I expect of Robyn Carr and one listen will probably be all it gets. However, Ms Plummer's narration made it an enjoyable listen.

Happily ever after....

Easy listening; not too complicated of a story; great for hours of walking and no murders

There is no one like her. Pleasant voice. Love her inflection in her tone.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

A very nice listen!

What other book might you compare Swept Away to and why?

This is my second Robyn Carr book and I enjoy her books the same as I do the Nora Robert's books I've read. I mean that as a compliment!

Which character – as performed by Therese Plummer – was your favorite?

The characters, bizarre as some were, were still believable which is probably a combination of good writing and good narration. I loved the relationship that developed between Jennifer and Louise.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I liked that the author did not always take the typical path that is normally found in romance books where a misconception would occur and then a third of the book would relate to that before everyone can finally come back and move forward. That alone allowed me to enjoy it much more. I didn't have an extreme reaction because I couldn't relate to Jennifer's upbringing or her previous extravagant lifestyle but I love the way Robyn Carr tells a story.

Any additional comments?

Sometimes you want intense, sometimes you want thrilling but sometimes you want to sit back and just enjoy a good story.

5 Stars all the way

The narrator did an awesome job telling this story. The author also did a great job writing the story.

This isn't my typical genre of romance to read but the book is so good that I bought another book from this author.

Swept Away

They asked Jennifer Chaise if she did not want to board the plane. Nik didn't like to be chased down. He had broad shoulders and thick thighs, he was only 5'7", he was not tall He came into the airport rowing up his sleeves as he entered. His arms were tan and very strong, but he had small gentle hands. He wasn't exactly handsome, he wasn't bad look either. He had bushy browns, a bald head and twinkling blue eyes. Women found him sexy. Nik had quite a few men that traveled with them. Nik took Jennifer to lunch that day. Barbara Noble, wife number three, Was romantically involved with Nik. She was involved with Nik when he was divorced to wife number 2. Jennifer had no intention of becoming wife number 4. She played a mean game. His business wasn't her business. Jennifer was a professional girlfriend. She was asked out by Robert. He was a nice man. He was kind and thoughtful. Outfitting her with more clothes. He sent her to a cosmetic dentist to repair her front tooth. Jennifer remained his girlfriend for two years. Jennifer thought he killed Barbara Nobles, she was laying on the bed, then he took a shower and was singing. Jennifer rented from the Sunshine Hotel for $150 a week. When she got back to the dinner, there was a sign in the door saying, help wanted. We need help for the help. And elderly woman called Rosemary cut her a special deal of $150 a week if she didn't require housekeeping and she made it clear it was a favor for Buzz. The accommodations were a definite improvement. She went to the library almost everyday, so she would read newspapers and magazines. The librarians name was Mary Claire. She loved reading since she was a child. A few days while she was sweeping up, a waitress named Hedda came in. Hedda looked up and down. Gloria was a woman in her 50's. Gloria had a bedridden husband and they would check on him often. Senior Buzz, we trade off very good. Senior Buzz, Adolfo got up to see a man in an old worn coat, he called, let him in. The man took a seat at the counter and Buzz gave him a steaming bowl of soup, coffee and some rolls. She found her husband on the garage floor, his name was Harmen, near death. He went from bed to wheelchair to bed. Alex was young, he was 35. Tell me about it. That's just crazy at your age. She's a good girl. Way too much. With you right next door, can you get that big suitcase down from my bedroom closet? She asked Alex. Alex was a Metro Police Detective in Ls Vegas. Am I clear. Old age. I'll be nice to your house sitter. Now you be very careful my love. How did she manage to get to be 30. And had come to think of her as a friend. You'll have a good six months. What a drama queen. Louise went off to London. Louise was gone for the summer. Frank Sinatra was singing on the radio. Jennifer said God bless Louise Barstow. Being raised by Scheree Chaise was like growing up in a three ring circus. Manic episodes followed by deep depression. Unstable romantic interest had them running home to grandma and grandpa in Ohio. Scheree was whimsical and full of big dreams. The most loving and vulnerable person alive. Lue came into the dinner and another goon to question Jennifer if she saw this woman. He said, did you live her? There is no woman here by that name. Rose was 70, she was incredible fashionable. Not Rose, she was very beautiful. Rose said can you really be that alone. h, please don't let me cry. They had free concerts in the park and the community theater. Rose has never been married. Why Rose that was wonderful. Nice color, I believe it is called Matador. Jennifer visited with Mrs. Vanderhoff, she was very ill, and not working. That is the stuff she can't part with. There was a wine shop at the bar. Perfect, instantly perfect As Rose when into the kitchen to open the wine, Rose's house was stunning. Rose said, well, Louise said, I won't tell him, it might break his heart. He's a police detective. Jennifer tried to keep her expression steady, band, Really? A police detective? She was hit in the face by Sylvia and went out like a light. No, I can't. I'm not afraid. Her jaw was pounding. I'll be fine. Because I can't Buzz. So she ran to the bathroom refusing the paramedics to see her. It took awhile, and there stood Alex, he took her chin and looked face to face. Alex was roughly handsome. Doris didn't have the problem. Come on Doris, I'll take you home. Your not fine all three guys said. Jennifer said, I will be fine, just let me have a couple of aspirin and I will be. Alex grabbed her hand and pulled her through the door. Come on, let's don't be stupid. He probably new how handsome he was, and damn there was a dimple. I trusted him. Have you broken any laws. Okay. Nik has been in lots of trouble with the police. He ran Jennifer Chaise's record and she was clean. Nik Noble has a dozen of businesses, he runs drug money through. If she was his mistress for two years, then she knows things. According to his record no one has been able to make anything stick. He's not wanted Alex said. He's slippery, slipper isn't illegal. We're going to get him, Dobb's said. It's just a matter of time. Maybe you could help. Is there EA in on this? Noble washing up money for drug dealers. But he is trafficking in primarily in high ticket stolen goods. So the DEA is just getting in my way. I was hoping you could take me to this woman. Alex sat back, that was a stretch Dobbs. I was just running a check on Jennifer and Nik Noble. It's what I do 100xs a month. Fuck. This guy, he's dirty. Why they want crooks at their table is beyond me. Call me if anything comes up Alex Louise said, one thing beneath that he carries a very tender heart, so be gentle with him. And for advice about men, see Rose. It was Hedda and her little brother Joey. I told you, anytime. Come in, come in. Well, that takes care of Joey. She was on the floor with Alice. She placed a call to Alex but he wasn't home. Rose said it looks like gibberish to me. Just as soon as she returned to the table, there was a knock at the door. Alex, any chance you know Algebra? Well, I used to, he said advanced? Now there you are getting into murky territory. But, I'll take a look, it turned out his memory of algebra wasn't exactly fresh. He looked up www.algebra.com. It was after 10. It's okay. I can walk of to my house to get some ice cream, we need to celebrate. Jennifer bought 4 pairs of shorts, 3 sleveless T's, a tub top that left her shoulders bear and a basket for the bike. Jennifer might have been better off if she had been taken from her mother. Not so for Scherre. Scherre couldn't make it without her. And she knew that since she was in the first grade. Alex was leaning over the fence, and Jennifer said what if I had been a topless gardner. Alex said, be still my heart. Alice had no advice for Jennifer. Rose smiled. You'll thank me for this label. Hell Alex, you don't trust me anyway. Alex, for God's sake, what planet are you on. After they went to the party at the Garcias, Paula was talking to Alex, and said, for God's sake what planet are you on? After the pinata we will drop Rose off at her house. You can stay on with the beautiful Doris. Alex went to claim her. Jennifer layed her head on Alex's shoulder. The thrill of his lips, she kissed him. Could I just this once fall in love with a handsome man. She found him totally irresistible. Literally. Sexy yes. She headed to the dinner at 4:30. Buzz said, I think of all of you as family. We've been together for over 25 years. You never married Buzz, I never found anyone that would have me. I had a great time too. Are you busy Rose. He was a brand new police officer just 23 years old, in the City. Then a couple of years later a beautiful woman appeared. The new wife. We weren't close friends at that time, Rose said. So we didn't know that Alex was engaged and we weren't invited to the wedding. When Patsy showed up, I swear the hole street brightened. She was so effervescent, so alive. It was esy to tell that Alex was so happy. We saw a lot more of him in thos days. She left him, or she threw her out. She had company in. Louise warned me about you she said you would get me drunk and make me talk! Rudy is dead. She married a California engineer in the 40's, Harry was his name. They had only one child, his name was Rudy. Born just a year after they were married. Louise was first a teacher, then after going back to college to get her Phd. They were true partners. Harry worked for the Department of defense as a consultant. Rose smiled. Well Rudy burned his green card. Rudy was killed in London. There marriage was strained. She must have been devastated. A very sad story. She divides her time between Harry and Rudy. She needs so little. I wish I would have known about that. That woman, she ould be so out there. Alex was sitting on the park bench, and he said I can't believe you were going to leave Alice. He said, I didn't want to go, I had too. He stood up abruptly and came to her, causing her to back away a little. Hey, enough of this crap. I didn't betray you, I haven't sold you out. All I know is that you are scared of someone. And I think I know who, but I don't know why. All I'm guilty of is keeping my mouth shut while you learn to trust me. You don't understand. You're right, I don't. And your're not make in any easier. Alex, he killed his wife. I saw him. Wel, that did it. Shut him right up. It kinda knocked the shit out of him. Jennifer, if you can't tell my feelings for you are real, I'm way rusty than I thought. Now dammit, let me help you out of this mess so we can get on with our lives. Our lives, Jennifer said? Yeah, ours. Or you can stay and see if this works out. I now, I watched all that. It's Rose and Hedda and Buzz, it's the Garcia's, and its you. Alex, I don't want to go. Good, Alex said. Get in the back with her. Same Gunderson, will he unlocked the door and carried Alex the patient Alice to the room for an operation, she had a tumor on her spine causing her paralysis. She had a strong spirit and pulled through. She had to stay in the veterinarian for a few days. And Jennifer stayed until Alice could come home. Dear Louise, I will start off saying that everything is going to be alright. Alice gave me quite a scare last night. She couldn't get up. Alex and I rushed her to the vet. Same came in just for her. It turned out she had a tumor on her pine. I swear she took 10 years off my life. Hedda said, I'm not going. I'm not going to the high school dance. Hey, look Hedda. Now what happened. I just can't go. Just a dress. Wouldn't that be cool. You? She broke into a wide grin. I have to babysit at 6:00 to babysit Joey. Barbara Nobles is alive and well. The thing that's a little strange is he didn't ask me about the supposed death. Why would she be threated by Noble> Hedda is really proud. Doris said then we will poor her into that prom dress. Did you bring any pictures of anything you would like? So rose when down to Stone Cold, and said take your time. Why wouldn't your mom let you go. She hates me. Hedda, mothers don't hate their daughters. Well, I'm sure your wrong. He called me a bimbo. Alex, said if they say she is alive, she is. He's been arrested before, fraud, trafficking, money laundering. I want to talk to the FBI to get my name cleared. Ryan just asked me out on a date. I told him I do not have any days off. Hedda said, what did you say? While Hedda was at the dinner, she went to see Sylvia. Hedda when was Hedda ever in trouble? She told Sylvia, that's a tough job, working late at night. I asked him to turn over Jennifer Chaise if he found her. I'm involved with her. Serious, you could turn them over. You know the law. Did they love being played by you. She had relationships with these guys. I'm an idiot. I love you. Okay then, come to me. You should have no regrets. I want you for yourself. Things don't mean as much as you think If we go anywhere, we will be flying coach. I want to go to bed now. And the sooner, the better. You should have no regrets. I want you for yourself. She is completely in love with Alex. Rose took her to an aerobics class and Jennifer knew all the tricks. Rose was obviously a good dancer. Rose was flying through the class. This was fun. She was completely in love with Alex. This was a new experience. Alice wasn't interested. Jennifer had been in love with Alex for three months. It was 5:00 when a name named Wendell Phillips came to the house. He said I am an associate with the Johnson McGee law firm. I'm afraid I have some bad news, Mrs. Louise Barstow assed away yesterday in her London flat. She was found by her charwoman. Jennifer's hand went to her mouth, and her tears well up in her eyes. Oh, she can't be gone. The word I was giving is that it was a peaceful departure. Oh, poor Rose. Rose said I'd like to be alone for a bit. She wants to have a good cry. Mr. Phillips what time is it in London, it is 7 hours later in London. Louise was gone. Then the limo came and they said, don't you worry I'll be fine. Tell Buzz and Adolfo I will be okay. Jesus Christ, Gloria said. We don't usually get the high mucky mucks her at the Tin Can. The short, stout bald guy got out of the limo. Well, this is it, Jennifer thought. Here he is, as Jennifer saw Nik standing there looking at the dinner, she slowly removed her apron, hug it on the coat rack, and stepped out the door to meet Nik Noble. Hi baby, you look good. You too Nik. What did I do. I should have killed her. Damn she pissed me off. I don't hit girls, I was worried you were sick, worried Jennifer said? I'm sorry Nik. I'm not going to kid you Jennifer. Barbara is a pistol alright. Now you, you've got class. You're leaving me? I still have things. His eyes were sad and it turns out you didn't even trust me. I'll go back there eventually. Got them on ya. Let's go get them now. Go up to 2902, the brick house. Jennifer Chaise said, if he wouldn't hurt Buzz, Hedda or Rose she would go with him. Jennifer knew Nik would make good on his threats. And your sleeping with a cop? So they went to the airport. Rose was tough. Buzz was resilient. Alex was proud and strong. But what about poor Hedda. I don't know what your crying about , Nik said. It's not like life with me was hard or anything. She turned back to him, what would you know about it. Hey Nik shouted, watch it. You don't ant to piss me off, or what, she challenged. Nik said you want to try me out baby. . Just suck it up. Rose was very confused. And Rose began to think of her as a daughter. A limo just picked her up and took her away. He was clearly distraught. Rose listen, did she say where she was traveling. Do exactly as she ask. I do believe that. I'm telling you, she wouldn't do this. You can't get involved, regardless of what anyone else says, I think she was abducted. Boss, I'm going to leave,, I have comp time and vacation, family emergency. Someone's got to watch him, he's wacko for this girl. Who by the way I think wouldn't leave him or their friends. Book two, I'm going with you. What about John? Are you sure, just book two. They are going to Saint Martin. Oh my God. This is a nightmare. Talk about balls on a major body. She'd been so close. She had no one to blame but herself. When you get involved with Nik Noble. Barbara was a beautiful woman. She found a light weight pantsuit. She didn't want to be that woman again. It was best not to piss Nike off. Look Barbara, I don't want to be hear, and 24/7 they are watching us. I thought he was trying to kill you. what made you think I was dead. The tax record stuff. God he is such a liar. I threated to turn him into the FBI for fraud and money laundering. You can proof that? Isn't it nice that my girls are getting along so good. They landed at the Island of Saint Martin. They were taken to the house a 10,000 sq ft house. Nik, you cannot keep me against my will. I want you under wraps until I get my business straightened out. Something like that. So, how long do you think this will take. When this is behind you what are you going to do. Shitcan her, the big D. I know you think of me as a kinky old lady. I used to date me in limos. And I know from experience they are not the kind of guys you can play around with. They're serious. And sometimes dangerous. That's why I'm going to get her, Alex said. Look at this place, it's beautiful. The less you say out loud the better. Frank, you have the best job in the house. I think tonight I might come up her and see the stars. Lue will be on. He had the house for 10 years or more. Of course, we have infrared lights to see. And Barbara, listen to me, Let's go to the beach for a walk. Since we're going to be hear a long time, you will have cabin fever. He's going to drop you like a hot potato. You know your so damn busy, you forgot how to use your feminine wiles. As the facts became clear, it was money laundering, business that wasn't actually taking place. Barbara began to laugh, I can't believe you never caught on. Or, you going to let him shitcan you. Its your only chance. No, I hate him. I don't want him. What's a good time, 11:00 pm? Eleven jumping jacks. And, bending over. Have you lost your mind. Good luck Barbara. As she looked at Jennifer Barbara had tears in her eyes. At 9:20 there was shouting, or all your asses are grass. I guess we know now, she's gone. Did you check the beach house or the pool house? You know how to act. The less you know the less you have to worry about. It was a regional airport. Nik, don't, I'm not going. I don't know anything. Nik, let her go, she doesn't want to go with you. She was the more stable. Jennifer screamed. The jolt hit Alex in the butt. Dobbs, never happy to see him. What did I tell you Alex. The FBI were very happy to involve Nik with kidnapping Barbara and Jennifer. Of course, Alex flew into Jennifer's arms with relief and hunger. He held her clear off the ground as he devoured her mouth. Tears ran freely down her checks. And this when on and on and on. You came for me. I'm in love with you, it's not a temporary thing. I was so afraid I would never see you again. The first night she was back, Buzz through her a party Why isn't Hedda here. Probably, the girl was sitting on the steps. I guess she had a DUI. Oh kiddo. She will be in treatment. They are going to get her grandparents to come and get Joey. One year later, it was graduation day, there was too much excitement for anyone to sleep in. Hedda was the first one up to let Jebb, the puppy outside. In less than 5 minutes they were off to th park. A year ago, Hedda had moved in with Jennifer. But a few phone calls and letter, a visitation was established. Sometimes Hedda would fly to Tucson. they were coming for Hedda's graduation. On Sunday there was a big open house at the Garcia's. Sylvia would put in an appearance, some times sober, sometimes. not. Everyone from Buzz to Rose thought she should get another dog right away. And time to miss her friend. Rose would pop over and find Jennifer and Hedda holding each other. Tears flowing over Joey or Allice or Sylvia. Building a lot of character around her again. But Jennifer was fine. Jebb was three months old and they rode to the park at 5 or 6. Jennifer said God I love my life. And Alex and Jennifer are getting married. But we are and I'm getting a big man. No Alex, We are both getting married to each other. I loved this story. Such adventure. Truly loved it.

Excellent storyline. Love Robyn Carr’s way of telling a story. And of course Therese Plummer is my favorite narrator out there.
