Good One

Bunch of stories. Easy listen radio serials at its best. Love Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson in these old radio shows.

The great detective.

I love Sherlock Holmes.. I’ve seen many versions of the detective. My first taste of Holmes was the Basil Rathbone movies, the ones he did with Nigel Bruce as Watson. Now I just listened to Bruce play Watson on radio with a different actor playing Holmes. Tom Conway does a good job as Sherlock Holmes. I’m familiar with Conway from his Portrayal of another movie detective the Falcon. May Sherlock Holmes live forever.

Nigel Bruce is simply unintelligible

I’ve touched on this before.

I know that Watson is supposed to be somewhat daft. But Is he also supposed to be drop down drunk the entire time? At times his speech almost gives one the impression that he is mentally compromised and 162 years old. Wether it be due to age, intellect, or alcohol, he is devoid of the necessary accoutrements (teeth, fine motor skills of the tongue and facial muscles) to produce comprehensible speech.

How is THIS guy supposed to be chasing after and in criminals in their 20’s and 30’s? His character is purported to be no stranger to confrontation or violence and has proven to be a moderately capable henchman of sorts, sometimes single-handedly taking down antagonists in several of the original cannon. He is described as formidable, a force to be reckoned with due to his training as a soldier and his days playing Rugby for Black Heath. The man I am hearing through this recording, however, is way past the days when such youthful pursuits could be utilized without presenting a higher risk to his own personal welfare than that of the enemy he is pursuing.
