About this listen

For centuries, poets and philosophers extolled the benefits of a walk in the woods: Beethoven drew inspiration from rocks and trees; Wordsworth composed while tromping over the heath; Nikola Tesla conceived the electric motor while visiting a park. Intrigued by our storied renewal in the natural world, Florence Williams sets out to uncover the science behind nature's positive effects on the brain. From forest trails in Korea to islands in Finland to groves of eucalyptus in California, Williams investigates the science at the confluence of environment, mood, health, and creativity. Delving into completely new research, she uncovers the powers of the natural world to improve health, promote reflection and innovation, and ultimately strengthen our relationships. As our modern lives shift dramatically indoors, these ideas - and the answers they yield - are more urgent than ever.

A nice mix of science and storyline

I am a road warrior, so often listen to Audible to pass the miles. I listened to this book twice in a row. With the COVID19 pandemic, many of my adventures have been placed on hold. This reiterated the ready availability of small local nature fixes all around me

Absolutely loved!

I bought this book on whim and I am so glad I did. I absolutely loved it. I felt like the author was speaking to me like a friend and telling me stories with a purpose. It has changed the way I think about nature. I want to be in it more and really enjoy it. You won't regret listening to this book. It will make you think differently about sitting inside all day.

Very informative and easy to listen to

I really liked this book. It is encouraging me to go outside more for my health, mental clarity and mood. And , because of it, I hope to rise to that challenge.

Choose a different narrator

Her voice seemed contrived and forced, which was a complete distraction from the serenity of the book’s contents. I am going to buy the paperback so I can get through the book again and actually be able to absorb it.

Naturally awesome

Nature fix takes you all over the world to explore how different cultures connect to nature. There is fascinating research, delightful anecdotes, and very sage advice. I wish every policy maker could read this book and understand the importance of nature for our mental, physical, and spiritual well being.

My son is nonverbal and thanks you for writing this book

At least, I believe he would if he were able.
He doesn’t have the access to language to ask for something so abstract as walking in the woods... so, when I took my 22 year old son for a walk... he changed.
When he saw a clump of briers he protected me from them by guiding me away... he did many things like that and wouldn’t have been allowed the ability without the quiet of the woods.
I have learned so much here but my main takeaway is that a daily walk in the woods makes a literal world of difference in the somewhat suffocating world that autism seems to inflict. So, thank you!

Decent

Quite a fair bit of research went into creating this book. Appreciate going deeper into the studies and underlying principles.

Well written non fiction study of out of doors play and it’s importance

I liked her objectives . Some of the benefits of hiking and seeing new outdoor places cannot be measured, but we feel the healing power of nature.
