Story
Jack London worshiped strong and virtuous heroes, and his stories give great weight to the inevitable triumph of good over evil. His telling of the adventures of Humphrey van Weydon in The Sea Wolf is in keeping with this theme of moral man. His powerful and gripping saga of van Weydon's capture by a seal-hunting ship and the ensuing tangles with its dreaded captain, Wolf Larsen, makes this a classic American tale of peril and victory.

Story
"To Build a Fire" is the best known of all London's stories. It tells the story of a new arrival to the Klondike who stubbornly ignores warnings about the folly of traveling alone. He falls through the ice into a creek in 70-below weather, and his survival depends on being able to build a fire and dry his clothes - which he is unable to do. The famous version of this story was published in 1908.

Millions of people have thrilled to the adventure of young Jim Hawkins and Long John Silver since the publication of Treasure Island in 1883. It has been dramatized countless times since its appearance. Treasure maps marked with an X, schooners, the Black Spot, tropical islands, and peglegged sailors with parrots on their shoulders: All these stereotypes of the buccaneer tale were the invention of R. In the 1870s, newspaperman James Gordon Bennett of the New York Herald drummed up excitement and publicity for his paper through highly publicized missions of exploration. In 1879, Bennett's idea for a voyage was his most audacious to date: the North Pole. To do this, he hired a team of naval veterans in addition to a smattering of civilians with specialized knowledge in meteorology, whaling, and naturalism. The men on board the Jeannette set off in September of 1879. This would be the last time anyone saw them for two years.

Story
A young sea captain discovers a stowaway - and allows him to stay, eventually seeing in him a reflection of himself. Or perhaps that's all there ever was. Wendy Mullen's contralto voice captures the music of the sea; you'll be mesmerized by the telling and the tale. Conrad is at his best, and Mullen's reading captivates.

Turning in his grave.
About a third of the way through The Mutiny of the Elsinore, I decided to read, rather than listen to the story, and let Jack London rest In peace. I think this narration must have him turning in his grave. As for the narrator, he should occupy himself with something else…something he doesn’t have to ruin.

Just can't listen
This story is not bad, but I couldn't get through the first third of the book to let it finish creating the characters and building the story line. I didn't finish listening because the reader just seemed to drone on and on. With the exception of the mariner-type accent of the first mate, he just didn't give the characters any personality. My mind would drift while trying to listen. I simply ran out of patience.

Shockingly Racist, Not London’s Best
The story was terrible. The author contradicts himself. Written in a much different time, but why has Audible made a lot of this poor content free?

Racist and misogynistic
London's narrator spews the most racist and misogynistic theories, which I fear were London's own beliefs.
The story is mostly a narrative of the voyage from Baltimore around Cape Horn. The mutiny actually takes only a small portion of the book towards the end. Its main subplot is the growing love story between the narrator and the daughter of the captain.
I suspect that this was written as a serial, paid by theword, as ideas and phrases are repeated over and over, needlessly extending the book.
The reader has an irritating sing-song. mispronounces often, and sometimes pauses in a way that shows he does not recognize the flow of the narrative.
