Publisher's summary

Being different can feel like a curse… until God turns your life upside down and shows you the true blessing that it is…

Angela Parker is at odds with herself. Working at the Crazy Quilt Cabins resort in northwest Arkansas, she has seen beautiful romances unfold between several of the guests, and has been pining for her own happily-ever-after. Then her great-aunts, who own and help manage the resort, decide to take the year 1991 to fulfill their dreams of traveling the country. Angie is left alone for weeks at a time to run the resort by herself, thereby becoming convinced that she thrives best when she lives and works alone.

Besides, she thinks and acts differently than most people, which has turned off every man she’s ever dated.
Especially her propensity to talk too much, and say too much.

That must be a divine sign that she is called to the single life, right?

Except, there’s that wonderful recurring dream in which a shy, handsome man is holding her hand…

Eugene Newton, a freelance researcher nearing forty years old, has given up on trying to find a life partner. He’s different, and no woman he has been remotely interested in has ever cared for those differences. But when he ends up interviewing Angie and her great-aunts as part of a research project, he begins to wonder if he hasn’t finally found a woman who is compatible with him. He shelves the idea, not wanting to go down that road again, but nevertheless rents a cabin at the resort to use as home base while he’s working on the project.

Meanwhile, Angie fights against her instant attraction for Gene, reminding herself that she does best when living alone. However, when her great-aunts leave for a month-long trip in December, and the woman who has been helping Angie on weekends during her elderly relatives’ absence goes AWOL, Angie finds out the despairing, distressing truth: she can’t always handle the challenges of life on her own. So when Gene offers to step in for the missing assistant, Angie reluctantly accepts.

Her inner turmoil is only made worse when she realizes that Gene is the literal man of her dreams.

As the days go by, each wrestles with whether to allow themselves to envision a future with the other. On the day that they finally confess their burgeoning feelings for each other, the coming holiday promises to be one of the happiest for both of them.

Until, just a few days before Christmas, Angie overhears something that shatters her world…
