About this listen

A 1920s Easter Murder Mystery in the depths of rural Yorkshire A scoundrel lies dying, he makes his confession; his sins were despicable, and he wants to atone for his wasted life. He bequeaths an invaluable gift to Monks Hood Abbey, an ancient monastery set in a lonely corner of the Yorkshire moors. But sin throws a long shadow and corruption crawls in its shade.

Strangers come forward and lay claim to the monks' inheritance. The Abbot calls on Major Heathcliff Lennox and ex-Chief Inspector Swift to ask for their help. They must go to Yorkshire to unravel the mayhem – but then there's mystery, and murder, and another adventure begins.

Major Heathcliff Lennox, ex-WW1 war pilot, six feet 3 inches, unruly dark blond hair, age around 30 - named after the hero of Wuthering Heights by his romantically minded mother - much to his great annoyance.

The Monks Hood Murders is the fifth book in the Lennox series.

Much Loved Characters - Another Adventure!

This author has created a wonderful world of 1920's and, as she herself says, Cozy crime, Traditional Detectives, Downton Abbey! What's not to love. The addition of a doggy with character and a mind of his own makes it even better. There is a lot of history and information in each book, including this one. Don't forget to read the Author's Note at the end.

Let me also say Sam Dewhurst-Phillips is an AMAZING narrator! Even though I get the Kindle book first, I always wait to hear the Audible narration. So much life is brought forth, more character expressed and delineated that I feel I'm traveling along with all the other participants in the mystery!

Waiting eagerly for the next installment!

Solving murders between meals

I’ve enjoyed the characters from the beginning of the first book but after 5 books they have become old friends. A little more about the past of each of them is revealed and I enjoy this character development.
Lennox is always keen to help solve a murder but not at the expense of missing out on some necessary creature comforts like: coffee, good food, brandy and a warm fire.
High praise to author Karen Menuhin and the narrator Sam Dewhurst-Phillips who brings them to life.

Best one yet which I said about the last one too

in my last review my one complaint was seeming lack of good personality traits from Lennox, I was hoping he would start showing personal growth through the series. I'm happy to say this book did not disappoint. Lennox had much more kindness and depth of character in this book. Looking back over the first four books you can see the improvement growing, it was simply happening in a realistic timeline based on the close timing of events in all the books. Book 5 is where the improvement becomes much clearer.
