Just, ok

I found that I liked the start and most of the first book but I ended up bogging down and it was somewhat of a chore to read the next two books. If I could summarize everything it was just that it felt like everything was just ok. The characters weren't that compelling and the system was alright but nothing overtly special. I listed to all three books and don't really feel the need to continue with this one. It was nice getting the value of 35 hrs for one credit but I didn't find it that special.

Very satisfying listen

Fun story with likable characters and unique plot points. This series isn't heavy on stats, so if you're looking for that just know the author doesn't assign numerical value to absolutely everything to define power. Most of the story is written as first-person internal monologue which, for me at least, helps with picturing what's happening. The world is fleshed out enough that it's pretty easy to slip into and understand what's happening if you're at all familiar with the genre, but manages to not fall into the pitfall of cliche very often at all (which isn't easy at this point, let's be honest).

I really like the narration, but may be described as leaning a tiny bit towards monotone by anyone who's into big, dramatic performance. The voice and tone of the reader is easy on the ears while binging; not high pitched, shouty, or trying to sound constantly excited. The voices given to characters aren't extremely dissimilar, mostly a small change to inflection or accent, which may be a turn off to some listeners. I personally am so, so, so grateful that the girl characters (so far) aren't made to sound very high pitch and whiny like most narration by men. This reading was done with dignity and I will look into more from the same.

Not bad

We have a dystopian world where people have power and are still trying to survive. I can understand that progression of skills and abilities.
