Easy listen

This book is for the YA reader. It is an easy listen, and ever made into a visual medium, would be considered a “chick flick”. Three sisters have had a legacy passed down to them to keep a witch hunter in a supernatural prison. However, 2 days earlier the oldest system, who was good at bypassing wards, let the prisoner escape. That one point disturbed me. The prisoner had been hard to capture and required the cooperation of many witches, yet it only took only one to let out? Otherwise it’s easy listening.

sister with magic

Laura, Nickie and Emily Hadstrom are three sisters and are witches. At a family celebration they learn they are keepers of the family legacy. It is their job to protect the witches of the world from the evil witch killer, the Gorafrex. The Gorafrex was contained many centuries ago by their family. Three rings were created to imprison the creature. Laura has an oh shit moment because she realizes that she has released the Gorafrex. Now the sisters must learn how to use the magic to save the witches. If you think this sounds a little bit like Charmed the tv show you are correct. The sisters work well together and have a strong bond.

The story centers around the sisters running around with a half-baked plan on how to put the Gorafrex back in the rock. When the questions should be how to find and contain the Gorafrex, they are running around with no plan to contain the thing. Their discussion/concern was, let’s just get it out of the humans it possesses. Yea, but then what. After 6 hours and 56 minutes that was never discussed. The story is just ok. It ends with a cliff hanger.

****Spoilers****
Martha Carr, Michael Anderle uses their unique world they created in the, Magic Compass series, in this book. It is an incredibly unique world that should have been explained to provide more background and understanding to the story. Earth is an organic ship with a level of sentience. Everything on earth is cargo. The mechanics, who keep it running are gnomes. The crimson bubbles and lavender scent are indicative of evil. Usually with the lavender scent there is the lingering scent of something rotten. Bubbles are the form of magic that magical creatures use. All humans are magical. Our peabrains have not been awaken. A peabrain is that smaller brain buried at the top of your spine along the back of a person’s neck. It is undetected by science and holds the innate magic humans possess. I found it annoying that this information was not shared. Therefore I did not rate it 5 stars. I'm not motivated to buy the next one.

To find out more about the unique world read the Magic Compass.

I will read the next book only because I want to see how they subdue the Gorafrex.
