About this listen

From Wall Street Journal bestselling author Kendra Elliot comes the story of a former FBI agent who tackles an unsolved kidnapping in the eighth installment of the Widow’s Island Novella series.

When former FBI agent Cate Wilde moves back to Widow’s Island, she envisions a simpler life than the one she had in law enforcement. But Cate’s past has a habit of catching up with her. When she receives a mysterious package containing a child’s mandible, she finds herself thrust back into action.

The mandible leads Cate to an unsolved case she worked seven years ago - the kidnapping of a three-year-old girl. At the time, Cate suspected the girl was kidnapped by her overprotective father. But after they both vanished, the case went cold.

At the urging of the girl’s mother, Cate dives back into the case and learns her prime suspect may still be a threat. Armed with new clues and a fresh perspective, Cate must confront the possibility that the kidnapper is poised to strike again. But can she save his new child from the same fate before it’s too late?

Suspense novella

Interesting story about a cold case. This is the first that I've read in this series. I don't know if they interconnect but I didn't feel like I was missing anything. The narration was good, too.

Somewhat suspenseful romance

As always the story was very well written and narration was very good. It was good to have the story line play out. This was a very clean romance.

Great Addition to series

I have enjoyed this series and this novella has shown another side of former FBI agent Cate Wilde. Her return to her childhood roots of Widow’s Island, has brought her what she was looking for. After being shot at as an agent, it was a difficult decision but she decided to leave
the bureau . A life without the stress & Responsibility of chasing monsters. She is happy in Widow’s Island with her fiancé, the local Doctor. She has rebuilt a new life for herself as a bakery and bookstore owner. So what’s wrong with that? Absolutely nothing until her old boss calls and asks her to speak to the family of one of her unsolved cases. The family refuses to talk with anyone else. It was supposed to be just an interview, but before you know it Cate was down the rabbit hole chasing this monster who 7 yrs prior had kidnapped his daughter and was the cause of his three-year-old dying because he refused medical treatment for her when she was sick. This is a chase you don’t wasn’t to miss! The narrator, Jane Oppenheimer did a great job also!

Ugh, Cate

Another action packed short story. Although, I have to admit that I just don't like Cate. She makes one poor decision after another.

Another wonderful novella..

I'm a big fan of Kendra Elliot books and novellas but unfortunately I listened to the first 2 of this series and could listen to no more because the narrator was so bad. Whether it was a man or woman talking they all sounded alike, just like a woman. UGH! But the last of the novellas the narrator was changed and she was much better. I could concentrate on what was going on with the murder of Aurora instead of listening to Logan sounding just like Tessa.

No romance and the F-bomb was used 6 times.

As for the narration: Jane Oppenheimer was a much better narrator than the last one.
