About this listen

Author's note: The following story takes place in the same world as my novel Blood Song, the first volume in the Raven's Shadow trilogy. I wrote it because I wanted to more fully explore characters who appear in Blood Song and the sequels Tower Lord and Queen of Fire. Readers familiar with my work are sure to recognize a certain pale-eyed, raspy-voiced Sword Master of the Sixth Order, and those curious as to the origins of the Tower Lord of the Southern Shore will find answers here. The tale takes place at the midpoint of the timeline described in Blood Song, a time when King Janus, with typical ruthlessness, is in the process of further consolidating his grip on the Unified Realm.

Well done

Quick listen that is well written. Ties in neatly with the trilogy. I would recommend it.

Good short story

It takes a few minutes to get up to speed but once you do it is a good short story. The main character is well developed while filling in some gaps found in the Blood Song through a secondary character and corresponding events.

Optional?

Great sidebar if you're familiar with Blood Song. Not sure how it does as a stand alone story.

Phenomenal narration

Steven Brand's narration once again makes him my favorite narrator! Simply put, he has the perfect voice for this genre of literature.

Very good for as short as it s

Not worth the $9 price tag, but still a great short story. The narrative that has been created, first with "The Blood Song" and then with this book is very well executed once you get used to the readers gravelly voice.

wow...

I've gone through several books already on audible, and I've found that I enjoy the action ones the most. After the last series I listened to I was kind of lost searching for something with loads of adventure, action and excitement. I stumbled along this series by mere accident and i can't stop listening. My fear is that I will finish this to quickly and be horribly sad when its over. I'm not sure I could find a substitute for these books, the author has such a way of describing scenes in the story that make me feel like I could be there with the characters. It might be because I have a over excited imagination but I can feel, smell and touch the scenery the author puts me me in.

To expensive for 1.5 hrs

A good inbetween filler but its too expensive for just one and a half hours of listening. The series is great so far.
