I was drawn in from the beginning.

Was drawn into the characters and wanted to hear their journey. Having been to China many years ago and having worked with a colleague from their, I felt some connection to the places. Had to check Google Maps several times. As a student of history, it was interesting to learn what it was like from a more personal point of view

Magical, spiritual & romantic

Interesting depiction of love between different lives, the immortals leaving the Earth due to the atrocities of war. Nice characters and beautiful, lyrical, journeys.

A good read

I really enjoyed this story and loved the narrator. It was a bit hard to follow at times and had to start over to catch things I had missed but overall I enjoyed it

Captivated by the stars!

This was such an engaging book. I came to love the characters and could not wait to see how their characters and relationships developed!

Acceptance of Change

Air raids, starvation, change, uncertainty all mark the journey our protagonist and her classmates go on to save themselves and their college library from the destruction of war. This is blended with ancient beliefs of major and minor gods, spirits, and stars that can come to earth. At its root, this is a story of loss, love, redemption, and survival in an ever changing environment. The elements are masterfully woven together to create a story with depth and heart.

Exquisite, suspenseful, and captivating!

This story had me rushing to finish it! Had to discover the end. The writing style was also beautiful.

Found this book very interesting. The addition of the star made me really want to look up other legends.

Her ability to weave magic and historical events is wonderful. The characters are well developed and the detailed scenery rich in description and feel.

Enjoyable

I really liked this story. I came across it randomly and glad I decided to try it. The narrator did a great job. Like others, I had to rewind a few places to catch details I missed. In this story, details are crucial to understanding the storyline. It provoked me to read more about this time in history and China's culture. I just wish it would have included more in the ending. I wanted to know what came after.
