About this listen

He's from 1892 England; she's in a small library in 2017. And that's just the start of their troubles.

Emme never meant to stay in Maine. She'd come only to find a librarian for her Gram's library, a custodian for the collection of mysterious books she'd promised to protect. On a dark, wintery night, alone in the library, she takes her first glance into one of the antique novels and finds herself transported to 1892 England staring into the eyes of handsome and dashing hero Jack Ridgewell. As each chapter passes she learns you can truly fall in love with a character in a book, that book boyfriends are real and Emme must choose between the real world, and his.

When the last page is read he's gone and Emme feels the cold loneliness of lost love. Will she find Jack again, or will their love be forever lost? The answer lies within the pages....

Contains mature themes.

Intriguing, but disappointing ending

Loved the plot! Could have been flushed out a little more in areas. I’m THOROUGHLY disappointed with the ending. Not what I was hoping for. Uggghh! Time to rewrite my own proper ending.

uhmmmm mixed feelings

The premise of the story is really interesting. I think I would have really loved this book if it focused more on learning about her family's history then her promiscuous nature. To be fair a lot of the time when I read romance novels I feel this way though, I think romance is not my thing for reading material. I never mind a little side story of romance but I always find it as the main purpose to be hollow and disappointing. (lol I sound like a bitter heart broken old lady or something, haha I am not just find other things more exciting) All this to say I may read the next novel to see if now that the initial love story is over if the storyline gets more intriguing to me.

Imaginative Book

This well-crafted book held me on the edge of my seat waiting to hear what would happen next. I felt like I went on an adventure and was sad when it was over. I look forward to listening to the other books in this series.

Grand!

time-travel, England, Maine, romantic

Completely out of nowhere Emme's life is thrown into more disorder than she could have believed possible. After escaping the cold of Maine and going to college in Berkeley, she gets the call that her beloved grandmother who is her only family is critically ill. Too soon Emme makes a promise to grandmother as she is dying and finds that life is seriously weird. With no warning or instructions she finds the library's hidden secrets and totally unexpectedly falls into a book that leads to time travel!
The story explores the sisterhood of librarians who are the keepers as well as Emme's confusing time travels to the same man several times. A great read for a blustery afternoon.
Piper Goodeve is the voice artist who gives excellent voice to the characters.

This was a fun book to listen to. Time travel though delivered in a realistic way.

Easy to follow

The plot was easy to follow and some of the characters were interesting, the college friends not those sisters who help keep her secret. They became fast friends which is great, but their purpose wasn’t clear. The theme… that left me questioning the story. Is this story about love and loss and living in the moment and accepting life’s little moments because they are truly what counts? If so, I suggest providing more background on the role of the “Librarian” and what happened to her parents. The audience could figure out the theme without it being constantly repeated.

Too little of everything

There isn't enough for contemporary romance... not enough for history romance... not enough for a fantasy romance. I'm not sure what the writer was getting to.

To predictable

I knew s as free the 3rd chapter exactly what was going to happen.
To sing song , bordering on boring.

Just dumb

I can’t believe there’s a whole series. What a waste of time that would be.

Terrible story, in my opinion..

This was kind of silly, and not for grown-ups at all. Emme was 19 and Jack was 20. I think it would have been better if they’d been adults. She talked about Rose being her best friend but I don’t see how that was possible. Rose was a cardiovascular surgeon and would have had to spend years in college. When she went to college Emme would have been just a kid. So, when and how were they best friends? And sometimes Emme would talk and act like she’s 30 and then it was like she was 16.

I can’t think of one good part of the book. I don’t even know why I finished it, unless it was because I was hoping it would get better. It didn’t.

No sex and a little swearing by Emme.

As to the narration: When I listen to a female narrator the only way I can tell if she’s any good at all is if I don’t cringe every time a man speaks. If he doesn’t sound like a girl then the narrator isn’t bad. Good for you Piper Goodeve!
