Awesome Fantasy

This was my first experience with Mychaila A. Rose's work, and I really enjoyed it. The world building was involved and intricate. There were multiple characters who were complex and engaging. The story was convoluted and had many intense confrontations between the characters and the monsters that were becoming more active in the kingdom. I am looking forward to the next book in series. Benjamin Fife's narration was entertaining and added to the story's entertainment. I was given a free copy of the audiobook and I have voluntarily posted this review.

Great Fantasy Read!

Nothing goes right for Aerrow Fionn as the trials near — he doesn't even want to be a Dragon Knight! But from the moment the trials start, the kingdom is invaded by monsters, with no explanation for how they get past all the defenses.
We spend most of the story in Aerrow's POV, and while the things that happen change him, he remains tryecto who he started out as. The side characters are all well-written and full of surprises. There are moments of drama, action, a touch of romance, and humor.
The worldbuilding for Orithin is detailed and expansive, but easily understood.
With all the monsters, naturally there are plenty of fight scenes. They are as vividly described as the rest of the story, so there is some yuck factor.
As the story unfolds, Aerrow must face his demons, inner and real, as he grows into what he must become.
Benjamin Fife's talent lends itself perfectly to the narrative and characters. He adds emotion and urgency to the story. His ability to voice so many different characters consistently always impresses me.

Could stand to be divided into shorter books maybe?

Parents: R rated Content- I’d use your best judgement as there is dismemberment and lots of language.
Language: Fbombs, the sheer amount of language makes this easily R rated
Violence: R rated level of gore; very descriptive
Sexual content: allusions but no scenes

Interesting story, characters are ok though their development was iffy for such a long first book. The action segments are well written, the world is described in a workable manner though it could be explained better. My biggest problem is that there is such a large ebb and flow to the story overall. You’ll think the tale is wrapping up and then things will shift to the “wait! There’s more!” category (or you’ll check and see that there are HOURS left). This happens so much that by the time this first book finishes you sit there thinking “are you sure this is where you want to leave things for a second book?!” I’m torn on if I’d want to invest time into a second book… I’m intrigued by the story but the ebb and flow was really off putting.

Narrator: has really good differentiations
