About this listen

Neither Rex nor Regina wants a spouse, but they do have needs. Ranger Rex Duncan needs a false identity - just long enough to uncover a ring of Kansas ranch thieves. Answering Regina’s ad for a temporary husband, he leaves his beloved red dirt of Oklahoma to assume that disguise. But the most obstinate woman he’s ever known confounds his assignment, and with hair the red color that has always made his heart beat a little faster.

Regina Howard needs a new Mrs. in front of her name - just long enough to reclaim her deceased husband’s ranch, since Kansas law won’t allow women to own property. When Rex answers her ad for a husband who can take orders as part of a brief business arrangement, she finds this stubborn man ignores her every command. Yet, a good man is far more than just a name....

This historical western fiction centers on a widow in need of a fast marriage in order to keep the land and farm she and her husband had settled. Enter a cowboy that needs a fresh start after years driving cattle, or so he says.

The female protagonist is strong, knows her own mind yet she has some vulnerabilities. The male protagonist is much more than he seems.

The listener will be treated to unscrupples characters, good folks and wondering if a real romance will bloom.

The narration was well done. The characters were well portrayed. Leonor A. Woodworth is amazing. The voices matched the vision I had of the characters.

This was a enjoyable listen!!!

Widow Howard needs a husband fast! Turns out that Kansas law does not permit women to own land and the bank wants to sell her farm. Out of desperation, she places an ad for a husband, in name only, who will take orders. Rex is a ranger on undercover assignment to catch a ring of thieves who have been swindling farmers out of their land and money. The assignment...pose as Mrs. Howard’s new husband. However, Rex/Ben, does not take orders well and he & the widow get off to a rocky start. Will the widow calm down and let Rex help solve her problem and his case? Lots of drama w a crooked banker, suspect ranch manager and a stubborn woman. Great HEA...totally worth the read.

The fake marriage

Overall this book was entertaining. Regina Howard is very smart and wants to succeed. Her husband recently died in an accident and she wants to keep her home and land for her son. She needs a husband.
Rex Duncan answers her ad for a husband, but he isn’t the type of guy to take orders. He was hired to do a job, and being Regina’s husband is the perfect cover.
This book kept me wondering what would happen next. I also enjoyed Leonor A. Woodworth’s performance. She has a great vocal range and each character was distinct.

Donnelly has a lovely way of providing a deep emotional base for her characters which is performed exceptionally well by Woodworth.
If there was some way to keep that magic, but condense it down by half, with a bit more plot and character development, I’d be one very happy camper.

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. I enjoyed this western romance, it was a good read and did keep me in suspense as I am was not really sure how Mr. Miller was going to come in save the day.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Lady's Arrangement?

I feel like I was glad when Ted finally was caught for what he was doing, I was hoping that sooner or later he would be found out.

Which scene was your favorite?

When Rex comes back to rescue his new family!

Any additional comments?

The only reason why I did not give this book 5 stars was that I was lacking a little more romance, I feel like it needed just a little more and come on Rex was a hot ranger!!!

Sweet Innocent Western Romance

The storyline was a fantastic western with an insidious scheme and a determined rancher holding out against the bad guys--even if that determined rancher was a woman. So if you enjoy reading western fiction, don't miss out on this book.

If you are a romance reader, you may be disappointed with the story. Tender feelings are rarely explored and certainly never between the hero and heroine. There is never a moment of telling each other of their love. There isn't that climatic moment when we see them decide to stay together. Instead, it is just a foregone conclusion in the last chapter, having skipped over all the scenes of tenderness we would usually see in a romance novel--whether sweet or steamy.

The oral performance was well done with the narrator very ably creating voices for the many characters and interpreting the scenes fabulously, with the exception of the heroine. She always had a whine in her voice that I dont' equate with a strong woman determined to survive on her own. (I was sent a code for this audio book with a promise from me for a fair, honest review.)

Great western, but weak romance
