About this listen

Talia is a mysterious woman with a complicated past. She is a fighter who keeps her thoughts and feelings well guarded. While fulfilling her destiny, she meets Hark - a man she is inexplicably drawn to. Little does she know that her life will play out before his eyes during the very moment he intends to destroy her. Hark develops a deeper understanding of Talia's past as her secrets are revealed to him. Will Hark choose his feelings over the fate of the world, or is it much too late?

In this post-technological age, supernatural powers emerge within the gifted ";feylins," leaving the mundane antiquated. Reflections is a story of love, loss and sacrifice.©2007, 2017 Pieter Wikoff (P)2017 P.A. Wikoff

Best book in a long time...

Would you consider the audio edition of Feylin Lore: Reflections to be better than the print version?

The only reason that I would consider this is because I can experience the story while my eyes and hands are free for working.

What other book might you compare Feylin Lore: Reflections to and why?

Hard to say. It has similarities to other ideas and worlds but with it's own refreshing twist and view on all of it.

Which scene was your favorite?

Sheesh... Just one?? I think every chapter had amazing scenes. Game changing ones, humorous ones, "holy crap" ones, gory ones ETC. I wouldn't even be able to whittle it down to just one.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

A fantasy world you think you might understand... Till you realize you don't as it blows your mind.

Any additional comments?

I have the hard-cover of this book and I have read it 4 times. It made me remember that feeling when you read a good book... The one where you're reading in bed, occasionally realizing you should go to bed and you think, "As soon as I finish this chapter I'll stop." But you get to the end of said chapter... and NEED to read the next one.Being able to hear it narrated is awesome. The narrator's voice if perfect for the story and it's well read. There is pain. There is pleasure. There is gore. There is comedy. There is magical/spiritual energy. There is romance. The pace is not slow or fast, it seems just right. And there is badassery. The characters develop well. I wish some of them had more to do in the story... But only because I liked them so much. They had a lot of depth and a few had a lot of inner turmoil. As soon as I thought I had them figured out there would be a twist. It seems that even the "simple" minded characters had many facets to them. The romance that develops is properly "painful". I mean that in the sense that the life that they must "suffer" to be together is insurmountable... Every tiny victory makes you cheer. lolThe villains are well developed too. To the point that you actually get why they are doing the crazy they're doing. The "fight scenes" are very easily envisioned and well written... You will see it happening on the inside of you head. Also, I REALLY liked the way the magical abilities, "fey" energy, was depicted. It was a very cool way of making it different from other fantasy realms. Of course there are similarities to other things but the way abilities are learned and used was really unique.I also really liked how there were "secrets" in this book as well. Interesting character traits or occurrences that you had to be paying attention in order to catch. It was the exact opposite of assuming I am stupid... Despite me being kind of stupid sometimes.I also liked the world this story takes place in.I don't know if there is anything that I disliked about this book.

Terrific!

This is a great fantasy book! I absolutely loved this story! You can't imagine the world this story brings to life. The narration was superb and gave that extra flair to the story. It will keep you entertained. This was my first book by this author but definitely will not be my last. I will be reading any books that are released in this series (can't wait). A brand new world.

Would you listen to Feylin Lore: Reflections again? Why?

P A. Wikoff created a world I haven't seen before. Along the lines of Harry Potter and Star Wars, this is a world that needs to live on. I want to know more. I hope there are prequels and sequels. The powers are really cool, and they are describe more realistically than other fantasy books. ... One warning, though. It is GORY! There are scenes that made me scream out loud, "NO! NO!" Not for the squeamish, like me.

What other book might you compare Feylin Lore: Reflections to and why?

Harry Potter, Star Wars, Parallel Lines

What about Crystal Wikoff’s performance did you like?

Adorable.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Trust no one, least of all yourself.... Or: Power should only be desired by those who are willing to die for it.

Fantastic book, glad I stumbled across it

I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

So, this book was a surprisingly good find. I am generally sceptical about books in the paranormal romance category. I've found I can enjoy them but only if they are somewhat balanced between the romance and the paranormal/fantasy. This turned out to be a very well written, complex story that had depth, love and an interesting premise. I really enjoyed the dystopian, post-technology, world the author builds in this book. The action was intense enough, and graphic enough, to keep things moving. The characters are engaging and you grow to care about them as the story unfolds. The narration was really well done and really brought this world to life in my imagination. On an irrelivent side note, I felt like I was reminded of some other story while listening to this but I could never pin down what it was. All in all, I highly recommend this book.

A refreshing new tale....

***As always, I have to state that I was given this book for free in exchange for a review.
I never let the fact that I was given this book for free effect or sway my opinion in my review. My reviews are always my own opinion and thoughts on the books that I review.***

This is a book you need to listen to without too many distractions. Often the narrative switches between Talia, Hark and the Prophetess but is said in the first person- "I". Often I had to rewind to figure out who "I" was, and then "the doll" too. Especially since the voices for them are not too different. Also, the storyline switches quite quickly (hence paying attention to the book), one moment they are in one place doing one thing, and the next you're rewinding the book thinking "how did they get here?
The book starts with an event that parallels the end of the book. Then we meet Hark and Talia. She is a recruiter for the Feylin Order and recruits Hark. Not long after we learn Talia is not whom she initially seems, she has many secrets and a complicated personality. She is to embark on a quest and Hark is to join her. and there is plenty of strife, drama, and trials they need to overcome.

I would definitely recommend this book for anyone into the sci-fi genre. I would read/listen to another novel from this author.

Complex Fantasy Romance

The story is very well written. From the beginning, I was sucked in and it was hard to put it down. The story is interesting and quite complex. There is adventure, danger, suspense, humor, and romance.

Narration was well done and brought the story to life.

There is a lot of detail and unique character development. There are also quite a few twists and turns to throw us off. I had to listen to most of it with little distraction because there is so much going on that you need to focus or you will miss something important. Everything happens at a good pace though, not too fast or too slow.

Wonderful book- listen without distractions

I quite enjoyed this book. The world and peoples with their feylin capabilities were new to me. A refreshing new tale.

This is a book you need to listen to without too many distractions. Often the narrative switches between Talia, Hark and the Prophetess but is said in the first person- "I". She is to embark on a quest and Hark is to join her. and there is plenty of strife, drama and trials they need to overcome.

The narrator did a good job reading this book. My only criticism is the characters voices were very similar and everyone often spoke in a 'happy' tone which did not seem appropriate in all situations. Despite this, it was still pleasant listening to Crystal narrate. I would listen to another book narrated by her.

I would happily listen to/read another book by this author.

There is not any explicit sex or swearing. For the overly squeamish, there are a few scenes you'll probably want to gloss over, yet, they are not too gory.
