About this listen

While everyone knows of the Ice Bucket Challenge, the viral craze that swept the nation in summer 2014, too few know the truly inspirational story behind it.

Pete Frates was a man at war with his own body, a man whose love for others was unshakable. He was a man who refused to fight alone and, in so doing, mobilized a global army to combat one of the most devastating diseases on earth: ALS, or Lou Gehrig's disease. When the disease crippled Frates, the former Boston College baseball star turned tragedy into inspiration.

Pete's story is a testament to the power of love, the steadfastness of family, the generosity of strangers, and the compassion of crowds.

Heart renching at times, but also uplifting.

As you listen to this book, your heart will break at times for Pete, and his family, but you will also feel hope like the family does in regards to finding a cure for A L S. As I listened to this, I felt bad that the problems that I have are minor compared to Pete's, but yet I sometimes feel sorry for myself. If I could take any lesson from this book,it would be to have a positive attitude about life no matter what obstacles I might face. I was proud to hear Pete say that he was going to do anything possible to fight, and find a cure even though he knows how serious his situation is. With the ice bucket challenge a great success, Pete has the entire world pulling for him, and raising much needed funds for a cure.

THE DEFINITION OF HERO

A hero or heroine refers to characters, who in the face of danger and adversity or from a position of weakness, display courage and the will for self-sacrifice - that is, heroism - for some greater good of all humanity.
