Acerca de esta escucha

For fans of Radium Girls and history and WWII buffs, The Girls Who Stepped Out of Line takes you inside the lives and experiences of 15 unknown women heroes from the Greatest Generation, the women who served, fought, struggled, and made things happen during WWII - in and out of uniform, for theirs is a legacy destined to embolden generations of women to come.

The Girls Who Stepped Out of Line are the heroes of the Greatest Generation that you hardly ever hear about. These women who did extraordinary things didn’t expect thanks and shied away from medals and recognition. Despite their amazing accomplishments, they’ve gone mostly unheralded and unrewarded. No longer. These are the women of World War II who served, fought, struggled, and made things happen - in and out of uniform.

Liane B. Russell fled Austria with nothing and later became a renowned US scientist whose research on the effects of radiation on embryos made a difference to thousands of lives. Gena Turgel was a prisoner who worked in the hospital at Bergen-Belsen and cared for the young Anne Frank, who was dying of typhus. Gena survived and went on to write a memoir and spent her life educating children about the Holocaust. Ida and Louise Cook were British sisters who repeatedly smuggled out jewelry and furs and served as sponsors for refugees, and they also established temporary housing for immigrant families in London.

Retired US Army Major General Mari K. Eder wrote this book because she knew their stories needed to be told - and the sooner the better. For theirs is a legacy destined to embolden generations of women to come.

I hate that they don’t teach this in school. This was absolutely amazing what these women did.

That was wonderful

It was a great story of what women have done. Except for the last chapter, I couldn’t disagree with many of the women they highlighted more. Stick to the women who have made significant changes in US history. Not just the controversial women.

Learning what true courage for women and World War II was.

Gripping

She repeats her self a lot. For example she talks about a tennis player, there is a chapter about her then she is mentioned again in other chapters and the same facts are regurgitated. She is making such a great point throughout just needed a better editor.

Great information but….

I enjoyed learning about women who contributed to the Allied war effort in WW2. Most were accounts I had not read before. Knowing what they did after the war was also interesting. It’s a shame that the author veered off into liberal political talking points, repeating tales that have been debunked by extensive research and mentioning modern radicals as role models. Skip the last chapter for sure.

Informative Accounts of Female Contributions to WW2 Efforts

Great narration as women contributing to WWII are highlighted. It’s so important that ALL those who contribute to the efforts of freedom are recognized - regardless of gender, color, creed, or identity. Service is service…and those who are who committed to protecting the voice of freedom deserve respect.

Outstanding summary of outstanding women

Fantastic history and lessons of why these men and women are called the ‘greatest generation’. With so much hate and disrespect for our history being taught today, Our children should learn what so many women sacrificed to ensure freedom for ALL. I am blessed I have the career and opportunities today and thank these women for stepping out of line!

Should be taught to our kids
