That is, until something happened that enabled her to really see life for the gift it is. Emma was in a skydiving accident that made her a paraplegic. This book is not just about Emma's fall from the sky and how she learned to walk without ever regaining feeling in her legs but also about the beliefs and ideas that helped her survive. These are the beliefs and ideas that make her the happiest she's ever been.
While Emma did eventually learn how to walk again, her changed mindset is the thing she continues to be proudest of, and most grateful for. This unit was part of MACV-SOG (Military Assistance Command Vietnam Studies and Observations Group), or Studies and Observations Group as it was innocuously called. The small recon companies that were the center of its activities conducted some of the most dangerous missions of the war, infiltrating areas controlled by the North Vietnamese in Laos, Vietnam, and Cambodia. The companies never exceeded more than 30 Americans, yet they were the best source for the enemy's disposition.

A must read for any human.
Wow Emma. I’ve followed you on instagram for years, and this was an incredible listen. I cried so many times, smiled and laughed so many times, and felt your strength come through to me. So many life lessons I hope to take with me. Such a fabulous book. Thank you.

Amazing story
As someone with a newly acquired disability, I related to so many parts of this story. The writing and accounts of what happened are related so well, and there were so many non-cliche lessons throughout. I loved the audiobook and was sad to see it end.

I have suffered great loss and have had to choose to keep going each day, always choosing joy. This resonated with me!

Inexcusable Abuse
"Emma stayed strong throughout the humiliation of the insurance industry and the callousness of the legal profession. "
Above is a quote from another reviewer which should not be forgotten. Emma had no choice but to endure additional mental and physical abuse to prove over and over again, over five years, that, yes, she's paraplegic. Physicians knew this Day One.
I visited Dachau concentration camp as a 25 year old. The frigid air and the horror of the torture areas has never left me 50 years later.
Emma's story was just as appalling.
