About this listen

Can anyone really choose to be forgotten?

An elderly gentleman checks into a B&B in a small village in rural Ireland where he knows nobody. Four days later, his body is found in the lake.

The identity of their unknown guest raises questions for one family in particular, twin sisters Liv and Marianne, and their mother, Ethel, each of whom is searching for her own place in the world.

The Ghostlights brilliantly evokes the lives of the people in the town and explores the aftershocks of a stranger’s tragedy. What is identity? And strangerhood? What is the meaning of home, and what power do we have over whether or not we are remembered?

Excellent book

At long last
A truly intriguing story that held my attention every minute. I related to every character to some degree. I very much look forward to more from this author.

Easy on the ears

I enjoyed listening to this book very much. One cannot read with an irish accent so it was nice to hear. For me it gave the novel a clearer sense of place. The characters were well drawn and likable. It was funny and I oftentimes found myself laughing outloud. I just listened on a whim and I am glad I did.

Rather depressing

The narrators are great and the writing style is good. I enjoyed the flow of conversation and learning about Irish culture. I feel like the story was lacking some depth. It was slow and I kept waiting for something, anything, to happen. I understood the bits on self-realization that unfolded… finally, but even so they seemed lackluster. The truth is, the story is told and unwound in a manner that more closely resembles reality. For me; however, it was not a good selection as I prefer to loose myself in a story that’s more uplifting.
