About this listen

A stolen child. A terrible wartime secret.

Norway, 1940. Seduced by Nazi propaganda, Liv offers herself to the German High Command as war reaches rural Norway. She has something very special that they want in Berlin - but the personal cost will be terrible. Can she survive what she did as a naïve young woman in 1940?

England, 1968. Agnes, orphaned by the war, has grown up happy in the quiet wealth of the English countryside, raised by her adoring grandfather to be a perfect lady. But when he suddenly dies, she unveils a secret that changes everything. Agnes is not who she thought she was - and she is not safe.

Will Agnes pursue deep-buried secrets and put herself, and others, in danger? Will the truth set her free?©2024 Marius Gabriel (P)2024 Bonnier Books UK

The story kept me intrigued and entertained. I won't say this was a story that kept me wanting to stop everything and listen to my book. But, it was a story that kept me interested. I can't give the narrator a high mark because her cadence and inflection was so overly dramatic. Or at least emphasizing drama, which was inappropriate at so many times. I got used to it and and so was able to finish the book. Overall, I'd wait for a sale, I wouldn't use his credit.

I just finished this book and I am so sad it’s over. It was an extremely satisfying story filled with rich characters and so much history. I really liked the narrator too, her voice was soothing to listen to and her accents were excellent. I thoroughly enjoyed this and will look for other novels written by this author and/or narrated by this narrator.

What a wonderful story

I really liked this book. It made me want to learn more about Germany after the war and how it was divided and then eventually reunited. I did feel like the end was anticlimactic and rushed compared to the detail the author put into the rest of the story. I figured what happened would happen, so there were no surprises.

I enjoyed reading this story, about two sisters. Shortly after WW2 , the youngest discovered her life as she knew it was a lie and that she had a sister. This story chronicles her journey as she discovers the truth of herself, family and her older sister!

The story felt a bit rushed, but amazing nonetheless. It Would have been cool to listen to the parents point of view after the war. I’d love to see this as a movie. GREAT PERFORMANCE!

What a book! Gripping, agonizing, suspenseful, and heartbreaking. The many twists and turns that kept me afraid to know more and at the same time wanting to know what was going to happen. Excellent narration and book
