About this listen

Seventeen years of buried secrets and a divorce stood between them.

It started with her estranged father's murder. The last thing LA detective Gabby Woodward needed was the custody of her entitled half-brother. She was jaded and overworked. A nurturing soul she was not. And he was a reminder of him. Her ex-husband. The man who crushed her heart and trampled on her love.

Ex-mercenary Declan Roarke had hit rock bottom. His new assignment mentoring teen actors was the gateway to hell. And the last thing he needed was to be near his ex-wife. The woman who trampled on their vows and ruined his ability to trust.

Working together exposes feelings for each other that never died. It also uncovers the conspiracy that tore them apart. Lies. Murder. Plot twist. Welcome to Hollywood.

The Ex Assignment is book one of the Rogue Protectors series, but it can be heard as a stand-alone.

Need a better narrator

I really like the story but the male narrator was terrible. He can’t do different characters. It made it hard to finish the story.

What a book!

This story takes you from love, Hollywood,
marriage, kidnapping, betrayal, lies, murder.
It takes a murder to bring out the truth,
get ready!

Needs a different male voice...

Story and female narrator were good. Male voice didn't match the feel of the story...more of a Zachary Webber role! 😁

Plot is awesome but the guy is not

I'll be blunt: I have a lot of problems with Declan, the "hero" in the story. His behavior should not be taken as "normal". He is extremely possessive, tries to keep the heroine's male friends away, doesn't trust the heroine to handle situations she can handle, he ignores the heroine when she says no to sex (he cajoles her until she is ok w it, but we only know that cz it's spelled out in her thoughts, not that she said yes or was all over him), he admits he stalked her for a while, doesn't use a condom and it is unclear if the heroine is on birth control, etc. THIS. IS. NOT. ROMANTIC.
And for any younger (aka high schoolers and beyond) readers: please note that it's not ok to have sex with someone unless both people say yes. And consent can always be taken back if you don't like something. Stop means stop. No means no. Yes means yes. No one should be manipulated into sex.
The consent "talk" can be as brief as "you want to do this?" or "what you want to do next?" when you're down to undies, and there should be no coercion or pressure put on anyone. And for goodness sake, for hetero couples, guys should wear a condom regardless of whether or not the woman is on a pill/patch/iud/implant/monthly shot. Seriously, especially between new partners. STIs and pregnancy risks aren't worth doing it w/out a condom. And using two types of birth control is usually better for avoiding oops babies.

Wow! So Action Packed!

I loved this book! Emma Wilder really knows how to express anguish and need better than most narrators. Rick was very convincing as Declan also.

Enjoyed

Nice to have different story line.
The performance was good. Do not care for female being a Gus voice when you have a guy reading also.
Will look for other books by this author.

wonderful story

I really enjoyed the story, beautifully written but I didn't like all tge curse words. they weren't needed and they cheapened the characters.
