Enchanting story and enchanting performance
This was the first book I'd read by this author and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I was amazed at how she gave the reader such an intimate knowledge of what the characters were thinking, not just what they said and did. It seemed a little slow to get going, but the pace actually matched the overall effect of the story quite nicely.

absolutely delightful
An enchanting story brought to life by the narrator. Her voice made me feel as if I was back in Italy which was so many ago. Will definitely listen to this again next winter

Sweet story
I enjoyed this very much! Sometimes it’s just sweet to go back to days where life seems more gentle and kind. But it’s interesting to remember that people are people, no matter the generation.

Wonderful
Gentle and introspective in tone and plot. An engaging and refreshing novel, feminist but not angry. The heroines find confidence, self-knowledge, and love. Narrated with a fitting warmth, with perfect pacing and expression. A new favorite.
